Apple Not Making a Smaller iPhone Nano, But a Cheaper One: New York Times

The New York Times is reporting that Apple does not have plans for a smaller iPhone “anytime soon”, and that engineers are busy finishing the next iPhone 5, which should be ready by this summer.

There’s more to this. According to the NYT’s second source:

Another person who is in direct contact with Apple also said that the company would not make a smaller iPhone at this time, in part because a smaller device would not necessarily be much cheaper to manufacture and because it would be more difficult to operate.

More important, a phone with a smaller screen would force many developers to rewrite their apps, which Apple wants to avoid, the person said.

Yureka. I’ve been saying all along that changing the resolution of the iPhone would make it difficult for developers. So, if these words are true, the next iPhone will have the same screen–but be physically smaller (what the WSJ reported).

Voice Commands Resurface; Memory/Camera Downgrades for Cost Savings?

The rumour of voice commands are back (here’s a full list of 3GS voice commands). This time around, voice commands will make it easier to operate the next iPhone for people who do not like using virtual keyboards. Wow. Is Apple taking Voice navigation to the next level? Will we see full control of iOS via the power of our voices?

Other tidbits include revamping internals to make a cheaper cost for the iPhone, such as decreasing memory size and camera quality. MobileMe will become free and allow users to sync content without a cable. The rationale?

“The goal is that your photos and other media content will eventually just sync across all your Apple devices without people having to do anything,” the person said. If more iPhone users stored files online, Apple could make cheaper devices with less storage. Flash storage is one of the iPhone’s most expensive components.

Analyst Gene Munster from Piper Jaffray says that Apple must introduce a pre-paid iPhone if they want to “be a player in the global market”. This is a tough one to agree with. Apple is known for dominating the high-end niche with all of their products. Could the threat of Android, Nokiasoft, and webOS change Apple’s plans, to compete?

This was one of the juiciest iPhone rumour articles from the New York Times. Check it out here.

The rumors of Voice command improvements are exciting. Its the obvious next ‘interface revolution’ in my opinion.

I don’t want the new Iphone to have a down graded camera or decreased memory, i want a better quailty screen res, better camera, more memory and a dual core processer if they wanna make a cheeper one do so, but also make a high quailty one too, I my self don’t mind paying 1000 for a phone.

Oh well.

At least it would open doors for people who won’t or can’t shell our 500+
for an iPhone

BTW I already switched lol I’m using an HTC desire HD now but I still have
love for the iPhone heh

For starters 4.3 inch screen vs 3.5 is a huge difference and the icing on
the cake is HTCs buttons at the bottom of the device eliminate the need oh
option buttons on the screen like iPhone dose that takes up additional
viewing space that’s already smaller then 4.3 inch.

Changeable battery and SD card nice to have a spare battery if battery life
is an issue for you rather then getting bulky cases or external chargers.
Internet browser loads faster, also has flash. YouTube videos play in less
then a second little to no buffing wait.

Camera has a full list of features including macro (close up shots or
pictures of text documents in total clarity) iPhone camera is often blurry
when taking a picture of text up close

The HTC is not under clocked like iPhone 4 so its noticeably faster (I own
an iPhone 4, so I compare, not just talking BS)

Only thing I knock the HTC for is the battery isn’t as long as iPhone 4 but
it still gets the job done. It’s comparable with 3gs battery. Also the
android market is lacking compared to apples. Little to no good games for
the android yet other then Shitty ones except angry birds, need for speed,
hand full of others but thats about it. I’m not a game so it doesn’t bug me.

I think that about wraps up my mini review lol

its clear that you don’t have much spending money… and the fact that you are on here bragging about not mining spending 1000 bucks on a phone is your insecurties about the fact that you probably cant even spend 100 buck on one
