Apple Reveals Why the White iPhone 4 Was Delayed

Over at Mobilized, they had the opportunity to ask Apple executives questions about iOS tracking, and also about why the mysterious white iPhone 4 took so long to hit production.

Senior VP Phil Schiller explained the colour of the phone and how it acted with components led to unexpected issues to arise. Turns out the white iPhone 4 required more UV protection from the sun versus black iPhone 4s:

“It was challenging…It’s not as simple as making something white…There’s a lot more that goes into both the material science of it–how it holds up over time…but also in how it all works with the sensors…We thought we were there a year ago, or less than that, when we launched the iPhone 4, and we weren’t.”

Steve Jobs mentioned that Apple benefited from the extra work they poured into the white iPhone 4. Their perseverance enabled Apple to deliver white iPad 2 units to consumers.

Apple definitely dropped the ball with this white iPhone 4 launch. It’s nine months late, and with iPhone 5 rumours coming in at full force, you’re better off waiting for a next generation device to be announced. However, changes aren’t expected to be drastic moving from iPhone 4 to iPhone 5, so you won’t be missing out on much.

Look in your dictionary before calling out people’s mistakes. You’ll see that “color” is american spelling and “colour” is from the brits!

Actually, what is truly wrong is “spelt” since that is a form of wheat. It should be, “spelled”

Are you serious? Spelt is a perfectly correct form of the past tense of spell. Look it up. It is used more frequently in Britain and Australia, but is also occasionally used in Canadian English.
