iOS 5 Brings FaceTime Over AirPlay Mirroring

With the release of iOS 5 beta 3, some new features have been discovered. Beta 1 introduced a new feature for the iPad, AirPlay Mirroring which brings your iPad screen to your TV wirelessly via Apple TV.

Beta 3 now brings a new feature, FaceTime over AirPlay Mirroring, as noted by TiPB. Check out the screenshot of the feature in action provided by @reneritchie:

This brings a new element for FaceTime as it can now bring its video conferencing to the big screen. The next logical step would be to include group chat in the future, as this is already possible with iChat on the Mac.

Would you have a use for FaceTime on the big screen? It’d be great for meetings, and big family gatherings.

Any idea if iOS5 will bring FaceTime to 3G and make it worthwhile?

US networks like AT&T wouldn’t be able to handle that network traffic given their coverage. Works great over 3G in Canada for jailbroken devices.

Neither the article here nor at TiPB clarifies that this is for iPad only. Being that this is a site about the iPhone you’d think it would be mentioned that it’s not actually for iPhones.

Also, I guess an AppleTV is required?

Doesn’t mirroring work with every app?  Why would it be any different for FaceTime?
