Bell Overcharges Customers in BC, Instructs Them to Find Errors Themselves

Are you a Bell customer in BC? If you are, you should check your cellphone bill as customers in the Okanagan as Bell wireless customers have been charged for phantom long distance calls, according to the CBC:

Since May, Kelowna resident Amy Johnston has been receiving cell phone bills with small inconsistencies.

“On my cell phone bill, I was noticing an abnormal number of long distance calls,” she said. “I then noticed that they were saying that my calls were being placed from Kamloops or even Fort McMurray — two places where I don’t spend any time. So I knew that something was up.”

Johnston said she wasn’t in Kamloops during the billing cycle, and has never even been to Fort McMurray.

According to Bell, the issue lies in a newly-installed cellular tower that was incorrectly coded.

This is a new one. Get charged for calls you didn’t make, then get asked to comb through your bill to find errors. Talk about adding insult to injury.

Should customers be required to check their bills when errors occur, or should that be the responsibility of carriers?

This happened to me , when I discovered the issue I called bell and they argued with me that I must have made the calls and just didn’t remember. I explained that fort Macmurry was more than 10 hours from me, they argued I must have flown. When I explained that I had never been to fort Mac and don’t know anyone their, they told me their computers don’t make mistakes. I have never been so angry in my life and will always hate Bell. Worst customer service of any company anywhere!

This is exactly why Bell is the worst carrier in Canada. F them. Their error, their job to fix it. This should be taken to the CRTC.

This is the reason I left bell 5 years ago. They did the exact same thing to me every month and I had to waste time looking for charges and calls I did not warrant. Then when I paid my ECF they did not process my payment and sent my account to collections. I will never do business with such a company again.

Typical bell fuckups, I hate everything about that company.  Did you ever get it fixed or just had to pay like everyone else who has bell.

I was a customer of Bell with a corporate account. I managed the bills and it was a part time job. Our bills were about $3600/month and usually had about $1200 – $2500 in mistakes. When I made my Rep aware of the mistakes, only half would be reversed and fixed. Every month it was new mistakes as well as half of the previous months mistakes. We ended up leaving them after a year. Not worth it.

I think the question of fault is redundant – we all know Bell needs to step up their game and fix their problems like a real responsible and accountable company to their customers.

It’s ridiculous that this happens in the first place with such a large established company, but I don’t think it’s that out there to have people check their bill to make sure it’s charged correctly.

Like I said, they’re a large company, they can’t check the thousands of bills belonging to the customers in BC…..they’ve pin-pointed the problem, have admitted to it, and are just asking for people in that area to check. their bill and then Bell will correct it.

Personally I check mine each month anyway…bettr safe than sorry!

….just my 2 cents.

Haha you talk like bell is a reasonable company. In reality bell will overcharge everybody then refund the people that call and complain then collect from everyone who doesnt look. If I was a croof thats how I would charge my customers. Woops sorry I overcharged you! Lets not forget how amateur this company is at trying to scam Canada. Their usage based billing idea that they tryed sneaking through quietly ended up seeing a major uproar and so they rechanged their decision so it doesnt look like their literally screwing their consUmers so bad. Fuck BELL! It would be nice if we could boycott them and get everyone to leave them. Maybe with all these hackings that have been goin seeking revenge on big corporations, bell will find itself in a bad place (crossing my fingers)

Redundant? No! Vendors of other goods such as grocers are required by law to ensure their weigh scales are accurate. This same standard should apply to all billing. The onus is on Bell to bill accurately.
