The All New iPhone 5 Was Real, Unveils Source Who Tested A Prototype

Until a couple of weeks before the release of iPhone 4S, rumors floating around the internet regarding iPhone 5 were so strong that they actually led everyone to believe that Apple will launch an all new re-designed iPhone that sports a bigger screen and a thinner body. But despite all that, Apple eventually unveiled the iPhone 4S. But today, an interesting report by Business Insider claims that an unnamed source who claimed to have had used the iPhone 5 prototype has offered to shed some light on the device. The source believes that Apple did plan to release the iPhone 5 this year, but was forced to cancel a few months before the iPhone 4S launch.

Citing from the source:

A fully redesigned iPhone – was real and it was scrapped only months before the iPhone 4S was announced. We’ve been told this by an industry source who has been right about future Apple products in the past.

We have not been able to verify what he told us with a second source.  So we’re still treating these details as rumors. You should probably still read this post with a nice fat dose of salt.

Our source said that Apple engineers he knows thought until about three months before the iPhone 4S was released, that a new fully re-designed iPhone was going to be Apple’s next big announcement.

The source also claims that it was actually Steve Jobs who was unhappy with the bigger screen since it “fragmented the iPhones”, eventually leading to scraping of the iPhone 5 project.

Where the hell did you see the author refering to the picture in the article as the iphone 5? Are you dumb? Are you not able to comprehend that it might be a mock up pic? Use your fuckin’ brain !!!

A big part of the appeal of iOS to developers as opposed to say, Android and other mobile markets, is that there are several different iOS devices (4 iPhones, a couple iPod touches, there are also iPads but let’s ignore them for now) that are similar where it counts: all their screen sizes are the same. What this means for a developer is that they can make an app and make some minor alterations to accomodate the slightly different devices, and have their app be accessible to a HUGE amount of users.

On Android, there are so many different devices, and relatively few users per device that if a developer creates an app for one device, it will be incompatible will many other Android devices. This is fragmentation. Ie. they have to put in much more work to access the same amount of users as they would on iOS.

Steve had a point in not allowing the release of an iPhone with a bigger screen, but if I had to guess I’d say that the next iteration will have that bigger screen now that he’s gone. RIP Steve.

i doubt steve was against a bigger screen, just aganst fragmentation.i would think  by the time the next ipone is released most of their userbase will be on i4 or i4s. theyll probably drop updates for the 3gs soon  too

First, to those who are commenting on how the MOCK UP in the photo looks – um, what can I say, it’s a mock up, it is not the iPhone 5.

I truly believe that the iPhone 5 was in the works and very possibly could have been scrapped by Jobs.  After reading his biography, this is very possible and definitely something sdhe has done before.  Remember, unless it’s perfect, it doesn’t go out (well, perfect in Job’s eyes).  This was true for the white iPhone because the white wasn’t perfect.  Although a larger screen is needed, and would be great, I could Jobs scrapping it because it’s too different.  This is one case where different will be good.

Well I believe there were two release candidates. Apple/Jobs had them tested and picked one for a reason or other. It happened to be the one that shared the body with iPhone 4 so they decided to call it 4S.

Great! Before the release, rumors about new iPhone. After release, rumors about new iPhone! We might just talk about the new iPhone all the time!!!! iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 are just names. Apple decide what to call the product. Call it iPhone 5 and stop these rumors.
