Apple Seeks Separate Case Against 4 More Samsung Products including the Galaxy S III

Reuters reports Apple plans to ride the momentum of its recent $1.05 billion court victory over Samsung and move on to other smartphones that have infringed on Apple’s patents:

Seeking to capitalize on a major legal victory over its rival Samsung Electronics Ltd, Apple Inc has asked a federal court in a separate case to find that four additional Samsung products, including the Galaxy S III, infringe Apple’s patents.

Apple made a court filing today in U.S. District Court, Northern District of California, that added four additional Samsung products to the original list of 17 devices they believe have infringed on its patents.

AppleInsider notes the following amended complaint, which targets four new patents Apple plans to leverage against Samsung:

‘647 “Data Detectors” patent, the ‘721 “Slide-to-unlock” property, the ‘172 “Word completion” invention and the ‘604 “Universal search” patent.

Here is the complete list of Samsung phones listed in the court filing:

These infringing Samsung products include the at least 21 new smartphones, media players, and tablets that Samsung has released beginning in August 2011 and continuing through August 2012. Specifically, Samsung has imported into, offered for sale, or sold in the United States at least the following products, each of which infringes Apple’s patent rights: the Galaxy S III, Galaxy S III – Verizon, Galaxy Note, Galaxy S II Skyrocket, Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch, Galaxy S II, Galaxy S II – T-Mobile, Galaxy S II – AT&T, Galaxy Nexus, Illusion, Captivate Glide, Exhibit II 4G, Stratosphere, Transform Ultra, Admire, Conquer 4G, and Dart smartphones, the Galaxy Player 4.0 and Galaxy Player 5.0 media players, and the Galaxy Note 10.1, Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus and Galaxy Tab 8.9 tablets.

It looks like the saying ‘when it rains, it pours’ is starting to happen in Apple’s pursuit against Samsung’s alleged copying practices. And it looks like Samsung is getting caught without an umbrella against the Apple legal hurricane.

I don’t get why people are so pissed with apple? They invented this game. Someone else copied their stuff. Apple has a LEGAL obligation to make money for its investors. If you invested in apple based off technology and patents, you would expect them to protect what is theirs. Stop being a baby and live in the real world. Doesn’t matter who makes a better phone or anything. A patent is a patent.

Because patent trolling is stupid. Patents are not going to help us the consumer, yeah sure maybe the stockholder. These cases do absolutely nothing but harm the consumer giving us less choice and less competition. I do not support anti-competitive measures in any way. Apple will never get another dime from me.

What has Samsung innovated in the smartphone space, prior to and after the iPhone being released in 2007?

You can’t be further from the truth. Without defending its patents, apple has no incentive to innovate. You’d still have flip phones if apple never entered the market! Without the incentive, companies DON’T innovate and Samsung wouldn’t b aroun to rip them off.

I’ve said this numerous times. I wish Apple, Google/Samsung and others could put more focus on quality products rather than trying to squash the competition.
I’m all for protecting original ideas and projects, but there has to be a line where they need to focus more on the consumers.

If they learnt to work together a little better, I believe our mobile tech would grow ever faster than it is now.

if they bannd all the samsungs from USA and Canada then a if you do make a choice to buy them off market your going to pay alot more money since they know it will be hard to get them into canada or USA and if you dont then really dont have much choice and have to get iphone becouse its the only and best choice left wile everything alse is in the midrange and i know thats what they want becouse then they will rule the market again wile Samsung has been ruling the market for awile now and apple want to take it back and be on top again so this is the only way they can do it and they know it thats why there doing all this bull shit throwing money showing all the power they have i think i will never ever give any money to any apple prodects again even if they do bannd samsung i will keep buying them off market apple has no class and is so hungry for money they will do anything it takes to be on top again and take all your money

Ok Gary I think you are dick riding apple a bit too much there. Sure Samsung really never did come up with nothing prior to the original iPhones release, but you learn from the best. I am an apple guy too I own several apple products but that doesn’t mean I can be biased. I love completion. When you said Samsung didn’t have anything prior to the original iPhones launch you are absouloutly correct I agree with you 100%. But that’s just like saying that Kobe didn’t have anything before micheal Jordan and that he INFRINGED on Michael Jordan’s turn around fade away shot because my was the ORIGINAL creator of that shot so he has the right to sue Kobe Bryant on copying his shot. Lol seriously? It’s the same thing here sure apple created this whole new realm of smartphones but it’s all about who executes better in the end. And so far Samsung with their latest GS3 have done a very good job and now apple is kind of scared that they won’t be able to match the consumers expectations on the new iPhone so they are trying to get rid of Samsung in other ways. In the end it’s all about who can execute better in the end by learning from the best in this case Samsung learning (which apple calls copying) from apple.

Actually, if Jordan had a patent on the shot, use he could sue Kobe for it. Look, the patents don’t ban companies from making smartphones, they ensure the inventors receive royalties. Samsung phones will only be banned until an acceptable royalty is paid to Apple, while ensuring the devices don’t look like iPad rip offs. Apple didn’t patent a rectangle, but they did patent a black device with chrome highlights with specific dimensions. Samsung needs acolor swap and chane dimensions, that’s all.

None of the galaxy phones have the same dimensions as any iPhone. And pretty sure the colour black has been around way before Apple.

Wrong. Apple has a patent on the color black. They’ve also have a patent on the rectangle, and chrome accents around the rectangle according to Jon.

Apple can care less about you. It’s all about corporate greed, and profits, and how much more money they can suck out of you.
