Find Out Your Rogers iPhone 5 Upgrade Pricing by Dialling 611

Here’s a quick tip on how to acquire your Rogers iPhone 5 upgrade pricing–right from your iPhone

1. Dial 6-1-1 from your Rogers phone. Press # right away. It will say: “If you’re calling about the new iPhone 5, press #” (PRESS #)

2. Next it will say “For iPhone 5 sales and pricing, press 1; to reserve or check the status of a reservation, press 2…” (PRESS 1)

3. Next, it will say “If you’re an existing rogers wireless customer, press 1” (PRESS 1)

Then, “Please enter the 10 digit phone number of your wireless device” (ENTER PHONE NUMBER)

From here, the system will then read out your pricing and upgrade fee if applicable. Afterwards, the system will text you the details. Here was the text I received:

What was your upgrade pricing?

Thanks @JustinLuey for the tip!

I got the same prices listed in the screenshot, except with an early upgrade fee of $143 instead of $150. The last phone I got from Rogers was the iPhone 4 on launch day (I was out of contract then).

i just phone them and tried to find out the pricing under my number. it’s just $329 for me but no additional upgrade fee of $150 for me. I’m abt 2 month before my contract expires, that;s why it makes a difference? or it’s required to pay that $150 whenever you upgrade before the contract ends with rogers?

Re: Apple iPhone 5 Questions / Reservation List Numbers.”

Long story short, Rogers showed everyones EUP as $0 online for the weekend, today it’s changed to $169 and $150 and some have other prices.

We call retentions regarding the issue and people are having their EUP waived.

I don’t think it’s so much that the EUP is getting people… that’s been around forever, and people know about that. The thing that is causing confusion is that the prices that they’re telling people are $50 more than the prices that other carriers are showing – hell, $50 more than Rogers shows on their site…

AppleXXX

lol $50 is a lot less than a $169 EUP

You are missing the point. Rogers fucked up over the weekend on EUP pricing (we assume) so we are all calling in getting that waived via retentions.

Saving $169 on a EUP

or sit here and complain about $50 difference on the hardware.

I’ll take the greater amount as well as the option that i can do something about as opposed to complaining about something that can’t be undone.

ROGERS IS SHOWING $50 more because apple has told them they need to take the $50 off as a credit so that apple is still paid the initial amount of the hardware. This is what I can make of the $50 difference but I may be wrong

If you look at what they showed on the weekend though – I saw it too, so I know exactly what you’re talking about – it says that the prices they show are ONLY valid for the day that they’re shown. So if it changes from one day to the next, then that’s covered with the disclaimer.

We’ll that’s where “WE” the rogers customers called into retention and have a interaction # with the EUP WAIVED.

Look, I’m not trying to argue with you. All I’m saying is that technically, Rogers doesn’t have to waive anything, site error or not because they have a disclaimer on the page saying that the information displayed is valid only for that day.
If you managed to get the fee waived, good for you.

here was my situation: 329$ for IP5 32Gb + 143$ EUP + 35$

after reading this, I decided to give it a try myself.. First, I tried chatting with Rogers.. DISASTER… when I said that I would simply quit if they didn’t give me something, all she was able to do was to paste me their leaving policy and how to contact support to quit Rogers!! Pathetic

So I decided to use my phone for a change and after waiting for 5-10 mins, I was able to speak to a kind women who wasn’t able to do anything else than telling me thing I already knew. When I started talking about waiting 10 more months and leaving to a competitor, she offered to transfer me to retention.

After waiting another 15-20 minutes, I spoke to another guy who first explained to me that for some weird reason, they charge 279$ for the 32Gb iphone + 50$, but this additionnal 50$ will be reimbursed through some kind of a mail in rebate, so it’s basically 279$ for the 32Gb like everywhere else, just one more hassle to thank us all to be with Rogers.

And finally, after arguing that I have been a good customer for many years, he offered to waive 80$ off my original EUP so it will cost me 63$ instead of 143$ to end my contract on my iphone 4.

The guy also confirmed to me that after I get my iphone 5, I can call back and have my old iphone 4 unlocked for 50$, so my GF will be able to use it on koodo.

So, all in all, I spent 45 minutes on the phone for a 80$ rebate, not too bad.

Oh and the funny part, the guy told me not to worry when I’ll go to the store to get my new phone, the guys at the store will definitly not know anything about all this and it should be applied directly on my invoice. If not, I now have a reference number for my @special@ deal.

So give them all a call.. it’s a pain, but sometime pays off.

I think I am going to call Rogers now!! Mine came back at the same without the $150 which I thought was good because last year I had calculated my early upgrade fees as $80 if I bought the iPhone 5 around now and when I called Rogers recently found out there is a new policy increasing the fee to $143. However, this post makes me think that Rogers pricing for existing customers is different. Not a big deal because still better than I expected.

You didn’t buy the 4S, they paid most of it for you. If you want them to pay for the iPhone 5, YOU have to pay off the subsidy on the 4S.
It’s the $35 upgrade fee that’s the scam.

Justin Luey

That’s not exactly true. In Canada and the U.S carriers have traditionally subsidized the cost of the phone ( or put another way, pay part of your phone upfront) and then pass that cost back to you in the monthly service fees.

In other countries, people pay the full cost of the phone and as a result pay lower monthly service fees.

Unlocked iPhone users in Canada are actually getting screwed, because they paid for their phone in full, but pay the same monthly service fee as everyone else.

All of this is just semantics, it comes down to total cost of ownership for the consumer and total profit for Rogers. The iPhone is very expensive for Rogers to subsidize, but iPhone users spend more money and require less support.

Consumers have to calculate the cost of the hardware, administration fees, and monthly fees. The total cost of ownership for iPhone has always been much lower through a carrier contract when compared to buying unlocked from Apple. However, this difference is almost gone now that Rogers is charging a $325 early upgrade fee to people who upgrade every year.

Here’s why iPhone users should be upset with Rogers (other carriers are just as bad or worse):

– Rogers set an expectation when they offered the iPhone 3GS and 4 with no early upgrade fee. Many people stayed with Rogers and maintained a $100+ monthly fee in order to keep their free early upgrade status.

– Rogers offers a $50 rebate on “early upgrades” but raises the price of the iPhone $50 for everyone eligible for the rebate. (Is this legal?)

– Rogers has increased the total cost of ownership for iPhone users by $325, but has not offered better plans or better service. My data speeds go down every year.

– Rogers makes upgrading difficult every year. Pricing confusion, last minute announcements or changes, a reservation system that takes weeks longer than just showing up at a store. This year they are telling people two different things about LTE data plans.

I recommend that you calculate the total cost of ownership for all options before making your decision. I also recommend calling Rogers and expressing the above concerns. In my experience, they usually do the right thing when pushed.

A bunch of robbers ad I found this out this morning. Retention didn’t seem to care that I was pissed. $143 for an early upgrade fee plus the upgrade fee of $35. Not only you sign a contract for three years, you’re treated worse that a potential new customer who pays $60 less for the phone. they could only offer me 50% off the early upgrade fee, but I’m still paying over $160 just to upgrade, plus $279 for the 32 GB phone I want. Rogers lost this customer when my contract runs out.

Ok I have a really stupid question…. I got the quoted prices shown in the screenshot above, but what exactly is the early upgrade fee? I assume if you got the message it’s required to pay. IE: If I want the 64G model I’d have to pay $429+143 right? IE: $572? Or is it 429 plus the 143 only if I’m not eligible? TIA…

Early upgrade fee is the amount you need to pay to end your current contract before renewing with a new one. For iPhones, it’s calculated at a cost of $13/month for every month remaining on your current contract term. I have 11 months left, so my upgrade fee is $143.
So to answer your question, yes, you would have to pay the cost of the phone plus the early upgrade fee, plus the admin fee and taxes.

Thanks, figured so, but was hoping they were just giving me the optional higher price if I felt like giving them more money 🙂 At this point it’s almost worth it to just go to the unlocked phone and have a higher resale value. Or wait till my term is over (any automated way to find that out?). Course who am I kidding, I’ll be lining up early early Friday morning with the other fanboys… 🙂

With Rogers you keep everything when you do an upgrade as long as it’s over $50/mo before taxes and you have a data plan. If you have an older plan I can see the push to change to a ‘new’ plan, but if you don’t like the new plans (even retention ones) then push to keep your existing plan and hopefully they let you.

I cant believe how greedy the Canadian service providers are (specially the big trio). So I got the same messege today 229 (16gb) +182 (early upgrading fee) – 50 (maybe hardware upgrade credit) +35 and don’t forget the HST = $450 roughly will be our cost that too only if we stuck up for another 3 yrs contract. WTF is wrong with them, they shouldnt have 3 yrs contract as every year with new devices ppl are tempted to purchase the new smartphones. In US market they give you 2 yrs contract which MAKES SENSE. I am still on iphone 4. with another yr to go.. Also, Can somebody tell me why the F*** this iphone cost 100 more (starting from 699) than the previous iphones, they always started with 599 (unless i am surfing from memory lost which I was told would likely happend in my 30s)

Called and asked to be transfered to retentions (customer relations). Just said I got an earlier automated text saying the upgrade fee was $0. They guy easily waived the $143 fee. This was my second call by the way, first guy said he couldn’t do anything. Just call in people and speak politely. Eventually someone will waive it. Just make sure you get a reference number for the call in case there any problems later when you actually buy the iphone.

I just got off the phone with Rogers. My early upgrade fee is $130. The agent told me that the upgrade fee will go down by $13 per month.

I have a 3GS that I bought in the summer of 2010. I got it just when iPhone 4 was announced, so 3GS was heavily discounted, which added extra to my upgrade fee. Also, at that time, you could upgrade after 24 month without any early upgrade fees. When I complained about that and requested to speak with a manager, I was transferred to another person who offered to reduce the early upgrade fee by half to $65 if I want to upgrade to iPhone 5. I also got the feeling that if I decide to upgrade to any other device, they might waive the fee completely (he first asked me what device I want to upgrade too).

Still, it does not sound fair to me that, just like that, they changed the rules for upgrading in the middle of my contract. At some point in the conversation, the manager became very irritated and blatantly stated that Rogers can change pricing any time they want, how they want, that they don’t have to stick with what was promised earlier, and it’s all in the contract. I wonder if other Canadian companies do the business similarly. I would rather deal with some one who is nice and fair to his customers.

Rogers should NOT be putting a disclaimer regarding “Early Upgrade Fee” (EUF). It’s called a FINISH contract given that it’s 36 months before they let you upgrade to a new phone. Furthermore, the $35 Admin cost should not be charged to the customers given that this amount is a fee they charge to transport your phone to the Rogers store as per Rogers customer service. You factor in the taxes and your estimated cost will shoot up as much as $450.
You need to be firm with them and make your point – DON’T give in right away. Speak to a manager who will be able to make a exception to this rule/policy. You will get frustrated even more if you continue to speak to a CSR, it feels like you are a broken record at times – sad to say. Chances are if you call them every day and let them know about your concerns in terms of their poor customer service; network connectivity, phone battery plus lengthy talks with their customer relations that leads you to nowhere they will eventually gives in your favor. Let them know you that you are a valued customer. It doesn’t that they would charge you this fee given that they will lock you up for another 3 years with them. I got my EUF removed. Let me know if anyone was able to get the $35 Admin fee take out.
Hope this helps!
JZ
