EnStream has announced Desjardins Group has been the first to sign an agreement to enable its members to download payment cards to NFC-enabled smartphones from Rogers, TELUS, Bell, MTS and SaskTel to make mobile payments.
“EnStream’s standardized platform ensures financial institutions like Desjardins are able to offer the maximum number of customers a secure means to make mobile transactions from their smartphones, regardless of which wireless operator they use,” said Wade Oosterman, President of Bell Mobility and Residential Services, and Chief Brand Officer at Bell.
“EnStream also plays an important aggregator role to enable the delivery of other credentials to the smartphone, such as loyalty cards, transit passes and identity credentials,” added David Robinson, Vice President of Emerging Business for Rogers.
“From an overall industry perspective, EnStream reduces industry complexity and costs; once integrated into its platform, an issuer is able to leverage Enstream to access the secure element services of all its member operators,” notes Drazen Lalovic, VP Market Planning of TELUS Communications.
You may recall EnStream is a joint venture between our incumbent carriers and as of last April was expected to launch ‘within six months’ at the time. The company did announce last fall its technology would be coming to RIM and MTS Allstream. EnStream has an existing mobile payment app called Zoompass, which allows money transfers via Interac, Western Union and prepaid Zoompass MasterCards.
