Instagram Updated for iOS 7: Edge to Edge Photos, Circular Profile Pics
Instagram has announced it has released its update for iOS 7, which comes with a new look and feel to go along with edge to edge photos, larger content in grid view, and circular profile pictures. It’s a subtle update with nothing drastic, but it now feels like an iOS 7 app (if only they updated the icon too).
Today we’re excited to announce Instagram for iOS 7.
We put the community—and the photos and videos you share—first. To bring you the best experience possible, we have always valued beauty and simplicity in our app. With the introduction of iOS 7 and its emphasis on clarity, we were excited to rebuild the look and feel of Instagram in a way that would bring these principles together and let the moments this community captures and shares shine.

Why on earth would they choose to display the photos edge-to-edge? Instagram saves all of its images as 612×612 pixels, so that they could be displayed pixel-for-pixel on an iPhone display. Now they’re displaying them at 640×640 pixels, which means every image is now being interpolated (scaled) to display at a non-optimum resolution. The images are no longer going to looks as sharp as they used to. Just so they could be a few millimetres larger. Stupid.
Hmmm….. No. It actually looks very nice, and if the picture is of high quality it looks better if anything….
Did anyone notice it’s been updated for ipad finally? No more 2x button.
