Apple’s Maps Team Looking To Hire Web UI Designer For ‘New Secret Project’

Yesterday, Apple posted a job listing looking for a Maps Web User Interface Designer to “design, develop and maintain complex front-end code for a new secret project,” as spotted by MacRumors.

While the job listing mentions maps, the position appears to have more of a web development focus. The web designer will be joining a small team that is working on an advanced web platform that will be the backbone of Apple’s future services.

Qualifications for the position include:

• Minimum 3 years experience building applications and web services
• Building pixel-perfect user interface with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and jQuery
• Javascript testing frameworks such as QUnit, Jasmine, buster.JS
• Deep understanding of DOM, XML, and JSON
• Browser compatibility issues

The job posting could be hint at a future web-based maps app, that may integrate into iCloud or future Apple products.

However, it is also possible that the position will involve work on internal tools to manage Apple services that would not translate into a consumer product.

Over the last couple of months we have seen Apple expanding the reach of its products. With the release of OS X Mavericks, iBooks and Maps will be coming to the desktop. We have also seen iWork for iCloud, which allows users to create documents from anywhere as long as they have access to a web browser.
