Security researcher Jacob Appelbaum and German news magazine Der Spiegel have leaked documents which show the U.S. National Security Agency has the ability to view nearly every communication sent from an iPhone.

The alleged NSA program called DROPOUTJEEP allows them to intercept SMS messages, view your contact list, get the exact location of your device, and even activate the microphone and camera on the device.

The documents claim a 100 percent success rate when it comes to accessing information from a device. Currently, the NSA needs physical access to the device to install the spyware, but a remote version is also in the works.

At the Chaos Communication Conference in Hamburg, Germany Appelbaum presents some possibilities:

“Either [the NSA] have a huge collection of exploits that work against Apple products, meaning they are hoarding information about critical systems that American companies produce, and sabotaging them, or Apple sabotaged it themselves.”

Apple has yet to release any official comments.
