Square Enix Montreal’s ‘Hitman GO’ Launches in the App Store

Hitman go 2

Square Enix Montreal has released their first game, the highly anticipated Hitman GO, available for iOS users today worldwide. The game takes a different approach to an action game as it’s a turn-based game built into puzzles:

Description
Get your daily fix of Agent 47 with this elegant, strategy-based Hitman game!

Hitman GO is a turn-based puzzle game with beautifully rendered diorama-style set pieces. You will strategically navigate fixed spaces on a grid to avoid enemies and take out your target or infiltrate well-guarded locations. You really have to think about each move and all the Hitman tools of the trade you would expect are included; disguises, distractions, sniper rifles and even 47’s iconic Silverballers.

The developers told Canada.com despite the Montreal office’s original mandate to bring the Hitman franchise to consoles, restructuring turned its primary focus to mobile games, which they are now comfortable with, according to studio head Patrick Naud:

“I strongly believe that there are a lot of lost opportunities on these devices,” he said, sitting in the studio’s downtown office.

“Right now the mandate that we have is to look at all of the Square Enix West brands that we have, such as Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Hitman, Thief and so on, and see how we can build a stronger ecosystem for these brands using these [mobile] devices.”

Hitman GO started out with 12 concepts at first, narrowed down to five, then two finalists were chosen. The final version came out to be Hitman GO as we see today. As for the the next project, Naud said another mobile game is coming based on the Hitman franchise, based on the other concept they approved.
