Apple Launches European 5W USB Power Adapter Exchange Program

Apple today launched a USB power adapter exchange program in Europe, as reported by macerkopf.de, after determining that in rare cases, the 5 W European adapter shipped with the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and iPhone 4S may pose a safety risk.

The affected Apple 5 W European USB power adapter is identified as Model A1300, an accessory which is also sold as a standalone accessory. After identifying the issue, Apple has decided to voluntarily exchange every affected power adapter for a new adapter, identified as Model A1400.

Affected power adapter

To identify the adapter, users need to check the label between the prongs on the adapter and find the model number. If the model is A1400, you don’t need to take additional steps, but if the 5 W power adapter is Model A1300, you may want to exchange it for free.

To exchange the faulty power adapter you can simply walk into an Apple Retail Store or participating Apple Authorized Service Provider. Since Apple needs to verify your iPhone’s serial number, you need to take your device with you as well. If you are unable to bring the affected adapter to any of the locations, you can contact Apple Technical support to arrange for an exchange.
