Microsoft Promo: Trade-In MacBook Air, Get $650 Towards Surface Pro 3

Microsoft announced their new Surface Pro 3 tablet back in May, marketed to replace your laptop, with specific mentioning of Apple’s MacBook Air. The company launched sales last week in Canada and the U.S. and now they are offering a promo, where if you trade in your MacBook Air, you can get up to $650 towards the new Surface Pro 3.

According to the promo (via WinBeta), it says “Get up to $650 in store credit when you trade in select MacBook Air models and purchase a Surface Pro 3.”

The fine print says the promo is available at Microsoft retail stores in Canada and goes until July 31, 2014.

What MacBook Air models are eligible for this promo? The Canadian Microsoft Store locations we spoke with said as long as it’s a MacBook Air in working condition, it will be applicable. They weren’t able to provide us with a specific answer.

If that’s the case, you could just buy an older model on Craiglist for under $650 (we saw a 2009 model listed for $350 in Vancouver; eBay showed models ranging from $350-$400) and get a deeper discount on your Surface Pro 3, which starts at $799 for the 64GB model.

iFixit got their hands on the Surface Pro 3, and in their teardown revealed the tablet has a repairability score of 1 out of 10 (lower means more difficult to repair), which makes it harder to repair compared to Apple’s iPad Air (which received a score of 2 out of 10). A Microsoft product is harder to repair than an Apple product? What has the world come to?

Anyone going to jump on this? You might be able to get a Surface Pro 3 for a discount, but of course the TypePad keyboard is still extra at $130.
