Flipboard to Introduce Video Ads with Fashion Brand Chanel

With fashion brand Chanel as its initial advertising partner, US based social network service Flipboard is now planing to go down the route of video advertising, following the likes of Instagram and Facebook. According to The Next Web, Flipboard founder and CEO Mike McCue has announced that the company will introduce the ad format starting next month.

“McCue told Read Write editor Owen Thomas that studies from analytics firm Nielsen concluded that advertising on Flipboard is more effective than TV ad spots. That’s based on the company’s existing static, full-page advertising – it will be interesting to see how video changes that engagement rate.”

Earlier this year, Flipboard launched version 2.0 of its iOS app to enable users to create custom magazines. The company also introduced a new web bookmarklet for the web over at share.flipboard.com to allow any web item to be added to Flipboard with a custom cover and access from the app.

Last year, Facebook introduced video advertising in December, while Instagram also introduced video ads in late 2013.
