AnandTech Founder Retired to Go Work for Apple

Yesterday, AnandTech founder Anand Lal Shimpi shocked the Internet by announcing he was retiring from his iconic hardware review site to pursue other interests, after 17 years of running the publication.
Now, Re/code has the scoop on why Anand retired–he’s going to go work for Apple:
Anand Lal Shimpi, the editor and publisher of the well-regarded AnandTech site, is going to work at Apple.
An Apple rep confirmed that the company was hiring Shimpi, but wouldn’t provide any other details.
Shimpi last night detailed why he was retiring, noting “there are a bunch of challenges out there,” and his departure was not health or business related. Did Apple poach Anand from his own site?
AnandTech recently expanded their reviews to Apple products, which have become the benchmark for some of the best and thorough reviews found on the web.
Not sure what to think of this, but one thing for sure is Anand’s sharp eye for detail has caught the attention of Apple.

Really happy for him! He is a very clever man and I’m sure his vision and business mind will perfectly fit with Apple’s culture. We wish him all the luck he deserves! Thanks for the news @Gary!
Yeah it’s a pretty cool story 🙂
Awe man. I’m happy for him but kinda bummed too. His reviews are so detailed and unlike any other site. I always read his in-depth reviews of what I’m getting from Apple before I make a decision to purchase/upgrade.
Yeah, it is a ‘loss’ for sure. His reviews were so epic and by far the only ones to read.
His reviews when it comes to PC hardware are unmatched. Blows away Toms Hardware.
