Rdio App Update Brings Free Radio Service, New Features

Popular music streaming app Rdio, which is most often compared to Spotify, has today pushed a significant update that introduces an all new free internet radio service and a suite of new features for music personalization and discovery. The all new stations-first service features 15 times more music than the leading internet radio service and a wide variety of station types.

Rdio’s free, advertising-supported Internet radio service will launch in 20 markets, including the United States. In Canada, the service is being supported through an innovative marketing, content, and promotion partnership with Shaw Communications. Chief operating officer Marc Ruxin said there’s a lot of room to improve on existing internet radio services. “Our epiphany was let’s create a free product that’s global that does a better job than the products that are out there”, he said.

Other new features of Rdio app include:

• Home: An evolving and constantly refreshing feed of personalized music stories that surfaces the best of Rdio in a single destination. Stories are built around the listener’s music preferences, recent activity from tastemakers and friends, recommendations from Rdio experts, and more.
• Favourites: Expanding listener’s collections so they can keep track of everything they love, all in one place.
• Browse: Where Rdio’s new curated stations can be explored.
• Trending: See which stations, songs, albums, artists, or playlists are popular among all Rdio music lovers, or toggle to people you follow and make it more personal.
