ApplePay

On Tuesday, Apple announced its new mobile payment system called Apple Pay which allows users to use NFC and Touch ID found on the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus to make payments.

At launch, Apple Pay will offer support for three of the largest banks in the United States. Visa, American Express, and MasterCard have all announced that they will be supporting Apple’s new mobile payment solution from day one.

Today Discover, the fourth largest credit card provider in the U.S., has announced that they are in talks with Apple to add its cards to the list of supported Apple Pay options. Here is a tweet the company released in response to a customer’s comment:

Discover has not yet provided any timeline on when they will be supported within the Apple Pay system.

Apple Pay will be available in the U.S. starting next month as an update to iOS 8. The company will also launch a new Apple Pay API which will allow developers to integrate the new mobile payments system into their own applications.

At launch, Apple claims that their new payment system will work at over 220,000 retails stores within the United States, including Nike, Macy’s, and Walgreens. The company says it is working “very hard” to expand the payments system to other countries.
