Apple Explains How to Identify iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus Models
Apple has updated their ‘Identifying iPhone models’ support page to include details for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The page details specific phone features which inform users they are purchasing legitimate iPhones and not well-made knock-offs, which are prevalent in places like Asia and also make their way into local classifieds.

Here are the details for the iPhone 6
- Year introduced: 2014
- Capacity: 16, 64, and 128 GB
- Colors: space gray, silver, gold
Model number on the back cover:
- Model A1549 (GSM model)
- Model A1549 (CDMA model)
- Model A1586
More details: The display is 4.7 inches (diagonal). The front has curved edges and is made of glass. The back is anodized aluminum. The Sleep/Wake button is on the right side of the device. The Home button contains Touch ID. There’s a True Tone LED flash on the back and a SIM tray on the right side that holds a “fourth form factor” (4FF) or nano-SIM card. The IMEI is etched on the back cover.
For the iPhone 6 Plus:
- Year introduced: 2014
- Capacity: 16, 64, and 128 GB
- Colors: space gray, silver, gold

What does it mean where you put a model number but not a type in brackets after it (like GSM or CDMA)?
I agree with the 16GB comment. It doesn’t make sense and should be 32, so each amount doubles the lower amount. Going from 16 to 64 is crazy. 16 isn’t enough, 64 is too much for me.
