If you were hoping to downgrade to iOS 7.1.2 today, you’re now out of luck. Apple has stopped signing the firmware which mean users are unable to downgrade, as noted by @iH8sn0w on Twitter:

If you weren’t exactly a fan of iOS 8, you are unable to downgrade now.
iOS 7.1.2 was released back in late June.
Yesterday, Apple released iOS 8.0.2 after the initial iOS 8.0.1 released caused the loss of cellular connectivity and Touch ID for some users, particular those with iPhone 6 models.

Nice! Just last night I was preparing my iPhone 5 to sell and when time came to restore, I chose not to update to 8.0.2. In case a potential buyer is looking for a jailbreakable iPhone; glad I did it just in time. If it doesn’t sell in the near future, I might jailbreak it myself and see what I’ve been missing since the redsn0w, pwnage, purple/blackra1n days. lol
The one and only jailbreak for the iPhone 5 running 7.1.2 is Pangu and imo, it’s very unstable. I think everyone is done with trying to jailbreak ioS 7.1.2. The focus I think now is on iOS 8.
If you look at historically the upgrade between versions, you will see that the update from iOS 6>iOS 7 was around 248 MB. And that took on a completely different GUI. With iOS 8, the difference is huget: 7.0 was 1.23 GB. iOS 8.02 is 1.69 GB or 460 MB. That’s an increase of 37.4 %. If anyone tries to sell me that the 1 GB or RAM is sufficient for the iPhone 6+, they’re nuts…unless they have only a few light apps open. The iPhone 6 is definitely a disposable phone, imo with iOS 8 installed. It’s definitely not even made for the future.
I have a iPhone 4 on ios 7.1. iTunes said I can upgrade to 7.1.2. Can I? Or will upgrade to 7.1.2 and then continue to ios 8?
You might want to do a manual upgrade to be safe.
