Rogers: Preparations for VoLTE Underway, “Stay Tuned” for Wi-Fi Calling Updates
Apple’s new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models support Voice Over LTE (VoLTE), which are sideband high-quality calls alongside LTE data usage. Another feature is Wi-Fi calling, which allows users to start calls over Wi-Fi then “seamlessly transition to VoLTE” when they are out of Wi-Fi range.

Rogers previously told us they would support Wi-Fi calling for the iPhone, but we haven’t heard from then since—until today. A Rogers spokesperson sent us the following updates via email on the status of VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling:
VoLTE:
Our goal is to bring our customers the fastest wireless and wired networks in the country. What VoLTE means for Canadians is that operators will be able to support higher quality calls and faster call connections. To continue to deliver some of the best networks in the world, Rogers has been preparing for the deployment of VoLTE and Canadians should expect these benefits in the near future.
Wi-Fi calling:
We’re always working to deliver the best wireless networks and enhanced voice services to our customers. Please stay tuned for updates.
No specific timelines or dates were mentioned, but if you were wondering about the status of VoLTE on Rogers, it’s coming soon; as for Wi-Fi calling, the company says to “stay tuned for updates.”

I’m just wondering if fido will follow suit with the WiFi calling and will that feature work on the iphone5 or only the newest iPhone 6 and 6 plus?
Ditto. I’ve always wondered why Rogers lets us fido customers have all the advantages of its nationwide network at a deep-discount. Hope not, but this enhanced service could be a way to set Rogers as the “premium” service and try to convince people to “upgrade”.
Shut up you sound like Rogering shill. We pay way too much for what we have already.
in what way? hes hoping the service comes to fido
I hope Telus will also provide this soon.
good, im growing tired of a) not being able to make a frigging reliable phonecall from my home (rogers one app calls ALWAYS drop, although im paranoid my bell service throttles voip apps but thats for another day) and b) harassing rogers on twitter 🙂
I know the feeling of not being able to make a call in my own house. My calls tend to drop especially during periods of usage. I called fido outside but they could care less if you are outside in the rain to make a phone call
Any update on this?
