Martin Hajek Posts Renders of Apple’s Rumoured 12-inch iPad Pro with Stylus [PICS]
Designer Martin Hajek has posted concept images of Apple’s long rumoured 12-inch iPad Pro and its companion stylus. The renders shown below are based on photos published by Japanese Apple magazine “MacFan” in December 2014.
The back of the larger device is similar to the current iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3. The front of the iPad Pro takes design cues from Apple’s current iPad lineup, however, the designer suggests the bezels around the display will be larger.
Several reports have noted that the device will be between 6.9 and 7.5mm thick, and will feature four integrated speakers (two on top and two on the bottom). The iPad Pro is expected to feature a screen size of 12.9 inches along with an A8X processor, 2GB of RAM, and a Touch ID fingerprint sensor.
Along with the concept images of the iPad Pro, Hajek also came up with a simple design for the rumoured companion stylus. The stylus features a capacitive +/- slider for various operations, bio-sensors (taken from the back of the Apple Watch), and a digital crown for additional operations.
The release date for Apple’s larger-screened iPad is still unknown. KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has suggested that production would begin sometime in the second quarter of 2015 due to the increased attention on iPhone 6 and 6 Plus production.

That’s because it will be.
Makes no sense (to me) because I see absolutely no market value in it. Instead I think they may put OS X on it to fill the hole that Apple hasn’t filled yet. And also include a detachable (optional?) keyboard. Just have to wait and see.
It’s not that simple as installing OSX on an iPad. It would basically have to be running it’s own unique version requiring a touch UI redesign of OSX, ported to run on ARM. Worst of all, will make it even more frustrating for devs. That would be a complete nightmare, and for what? Just so that it can be a Surface Pro copy cat? A Macbook Air already fills that hole.
It’s more than likely going to run iOS, but with a touch + pen optimized screen, for a fluid note taking, sketching experience, both of which lacks big time with current iPad. I’d junk my current iPad Air 2 and buy it in a heart beat.
We don’t know what processor it’s going to contain. The concept of a “Touch UI” (at least Microsoft’s notion of it) is silly, to me. You don’t need a special UI to use touch on OS X, just like you never needed it for Windows.
If it did come to pass that it would run OSX, that doesn’t exactly make it a Surface Pro copy cat. Touch tablet PC’s have been around for close to 10 years and Apple has missed this market, which is surprising to me. The MacBook Air doesn’t fit this hole at all because of it’s keyboard being in the way.
Right, BUT have you ever experienced OSX (or heck, even Windows 7) on an iPad? I have, plenty of times via remote desktop, and it can be frustrating as hell. Everyone knows that Apple is all about the user experience. Nobody wants to fumble around with tiny drop down menu’s which were clearly designed for mouse input. They aren’t going to put out a shoddy product experience like that. It has to be “touch friendly”, hence the required redesign. Again, I don’t see this happening when they already have iOS to build upon.
Apple is doing fine with what they have now, I just think all they need to do is improve the iPad’s pen input, with better iOS/OSX device integration, that’s all.
I agree with you a bajillion percent on the need to improve on the pen.
But with regard to using OSX or Windows on an iPad, I have no problem so long as I zoom in. And that’s the thing… You’re putting a 29″ screen (in my case) on a little iPad. Of course it’s going to be awkward. But with the appropriate resolution on a 12″ iPad, most everything will be fine. It’s been working on PC tablets for years (before Windows 8).
I had an HP slate as well as a tablet convertible before that, but both were stylus dependant and touch screen functionality sucked. Both never really hit the mainstream, and were really just fringe products. It wasn’t until the touch optimized, stylus free iPad was released, was when tablets became very popular, and now practically everyone has one. Putting OSX the way it is now, would be like a blast from the past, a fringe product, and I definitely wouldn’t buy it. If it’s awkward, and not what people are used to now-a-days with their touch optimized iPad’s running iOS, people aren’t going to use it or buy it. At least Windows has modern UI to fall back on, which OSX currently doesn’t have. Just my take on things, but we’ll see what happens.
