Skype for Web Beta Now Available in Canada and Beyond

Today, Skype has launched the web version (beta) of their communications app worldwide. Previously, the web version (beta) was only available to users in the U.S. and the UK.

Skype’s Web app is free to use and can be enjoyed by users all around the world. Currently, Skype for Web (beta) works with Chrome OS and Linux, in addition to Internet Explorer, Chrome, Safari and Firefox on OS X and Windows.

Users that are running Chrome OS can only use the instant messaging feature of Skype at this time, but at least its a start.

The company says that in the future Skype for Web will utilize WebRTC. This means that you will not have to install any plugins for the service to work. Users will only need to allow the site permission to use your webcam and microphone, but for now a plugin is required to make calls.
