After Samsung, Huawei is the New Apple Copycat in Town

Following in Samsung’s footsteps, Chinese electronics giant Huawei has decided to copy Apple’s products and their specs in its new and upcoming products. The company has just announced its new 5.5-inch Mate S smartphone at IFA, whose headline feature is “Force Touch”, which is the ability of the touchscreen display to sense varying levels of pressure (via The Verge). As we are all aware, the feature has been rumored to be coming to the next iPhone, having already debuted on the Apple Watch and the new MacBook.
“Huawei is preempting that presumed iPhone, copying the rumor before the real thing. It did exactly the same with its limited edition Ascend P7 Sapphire at last year’s IFA too, beating what everyone was sure was going to be an iPhone 6 with a sapphire crystal display. That rumor didn’t materialize, and Huawei only ever made a few of its sapphire-fronted phones.”
The Chinese company does however deserve some credit for its engineering achievement. Only luxury brands like Vertu could previously afford to produce such difficult and expensive screens. It’s safe to say that unlike Samsung, Huawei’s not merely a rip off artist, but rather “a technically accomplished rip off artist”, as The Verge puts it.

What’s even more interesting about Mate S is that the company is not limited itself to Apple only. Anyone that knows HTC’s One series of aluminum unibody smartphones will be instantly familiar with Huawei’s new flagship smartphone. It features the same chamfered edges, the gently curving back and even the plastic inserts punctuating the smooth metal (shown above).

This is actually a really nice phone, for the price.
Speaking of rip off artist: Isn’t copying another websites article word for word the same thing? Rip off artist or technically accomplished rip off artist @Usman Qureshi?
Are you sure its “word for word”? Besides thats media. All news outlets take from the Associated Press. No different.
well Usman’s hatred for Samsung (and anything android) is well documented on this site. The Hauwei phone is beautiful in comparison to iPhone 6. The website mentions nothing of the words “force touch” instead they say smart pressure sensitive screen. Chamfered edges is also something that isn’t new, HTC has been doing it for a few years as has Apple. If you’re gonna hate on phone makers, at least do your homework. Not everything that Apple touches turns to gold (ie Apple Music).
Might I suggest you take your own advice and do your homework. Read the article he says that it is also a rip off of HTC. I don’t mind his “hatred” for Samsung because I share it. They shameless rip off anyone at the top. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – if it wasn’t for Apple, Samsung phones would still look like Blackberries. Notice the name of their new galaxy? S6 Edge Plus … At the end of the day this is a blog and opinion is welcomed. Hey we see one sided opinion in newspapers all the time when it comes to partisan politics. If you don’t like his opinion don’t read the article, or don’t come to the site.
Appreciate the backup mate 🙂
No problem, I’m just telling it as it is.
The more companies do this. The more they actually re-affirm the status of the iPhone as the icon in the industry. And anything that’s not an iPhone is…not an iPhone. Whoops, that sounds familiar.
Thats odd. Apple just recieved their patent for Force Touch in May 2015. Samsung a year earlier in April 2014. Oh hold it….I forgot. When Apple copies someone (Spotify) its called innovation.????
lol apple copied spotify? please, get out of here with your idiotic trolling.
I don’t recall anyone ever claiming that Apple Music was an innovation. I think everyone is pretty clear on the fact that Apple was late to the game in streaming music.
If you can’t innovate, you just imitate, but it will never be as good as the original
The original smartphone maker was RIM. Not apple.
Not this design.

Oh please. That design is from HTC One, if anyone here is getting copied it would be HTC. Apple is a copycat as well.
Read the article.
I wonder how jealous Jony Ive is that it’s more symmetrical and has less copyright/logo junk printed on it than his iPhone designs.
This could just be the Asian model. In North America all electronics have to have all that writing; however I do remember reading here that might be changing very soon.
Huawei is definitely way better than apple design these days.
