Rogers Confirms First Rewards Program Shut Down on June 30, 2016

Last month it was reported Rogers was set to end their First Rewards Program, and now the company has officially acknowledged the cancelling of the program in a FAQ support document.

As rumoured, low participation in the program is the result of its cancellation, explains the company:

After listening to our customers and assessing your evolving needs, we have decided to discontinue the current Rogers First Rewards program due to low participation, and to re-focus our efforts to create more value for you. You can look forward to new programs, coming soon, designed to enhance your experience.

An alternative replacement program the company is touting is their new Rogers Platinum MasterCard, which earns 1.75% cash back on all purchases. Cash rewards can be applied at Rogers and Fido stores towards purchases.

Existing customers with a Rogers First Rewards MasterCard will see their card discontinued, but the company says they will be “automatically migrated” to the new Rogers Platinum MasterCard in October.

Rogers says they started notifying customers earlier this month the program would be coming to an end. Points will continue to be earned until December 1, 2015 and redeemed until June 30, 2016. After this date, points will expire.

The key date here is June 30, 2016. Make sure you redeem your points by then or they’ll go down the drain. Anyone out there using Rogers First Rewards? Are you sad or happy it’s set to disappear?

Thanks Nicholas

Like I’ve said before theres low usgae because people are waiting to use them on an upgrade … I’m positive a ton will be redeemed in the next few months because of the new iPhones.

Exactly…low participation? People haven’t had enough points to actually redeem for anything worthwhile yet.

Just another example of how Rogers truly does not understand its own customers and could careless to try.

What are we supposed to use these for? I have a ton of them, but I buy my phones outright.

If all else fails and you don’t like the SMS or data options, get shopping channel gift cards. Might as well get a Bose Soundwave speaker, or something else.

Glad I didn’t give up my bundle discount to get it!

I was never convinced giving up my bundle would work out cheaper gaining rewards I would likely never use. Hopefully new programs will be discounts 😉

“Hopefully new programs will be discounts”

That word with a “D” is not in the Rogetionary.

I generally used them to get a couple extra GB’s of data. The program worked well for me.

When the first story came up I went to spend my point on anything.

I still have all my points.

I earn massive points monthly mainly because all my services are with Rogers so it’s been beneficial to me, with a few month of extra data, a few movie rentals here and there and about $250 going to a device upgrade annually, it’s been pretty good to me. I was going to save my points and get the iPhone 7 next year, but I guess I’ll have to spend my remaining 30,000.
