iPhone 6s Digital vs 6s Plus Optical Image Stabilization Compared [VIDEO]
This year’s iPhone 6s Plus gained optical image stabilization (OIS) for videos, whereas last year this added feature was only available for still images. For the iPhone 6s, it only has digital optical image stabilization for videos, compared to its big brother.
German site Giga.de has put together a side-by-side comparison which shows the iPhone 6s digital stabilization versus the optical image stabilization found in the iPhone 6s Plus when recording video.
Their comparison below shows a variety of scenes; footage where the plane occurs, has both phones recording side-by-side; the statue segment was shot one after another with each device.
For another set of videos compared, Singapore newspaper The Straits Times shared videos taken by the iPhone 6s below:

Again, it’s decision-making time as to whether OIS is worth it for you. If you take lots of videos or have children, OIS may come in pretty handy to get those videos that don’t look shaky. But of course, it will cost you more versus the iPhone 6s, and will require carrying the larger iPhone 6s Plus.
Apple has been granting exclusive early access to the iPhone 6s Plus to notable photographers, allowing them to shoot and share first images taken by the smartphone, set to launch worldwide tomorrow.

Wow, I’m really impressed. I do video work as a job and use hyperlapse once in awhile for secondary shots (just for video stabilization at 1x). I’m hoping that their API allows them to combine the gyroscopic data stabilization with the camera’s motor stabilization as it should make one hell of a smooth shot with both forces at work. Picking up the 6s plus tomorrow :).

Yup, as someone who take a Bazillion videos of my kids, the added stabilization is a HUGE selling feature. It’s almost time to pick up my iPhone 6s Plus.

Will do. It appears though that Hyperlapse needs to be updated. I’m getting a “stabilization not supported” error at the moment. Very annoying.
Its a real shame Apple couldn’t get OIS and better battery life in the 6S. I want the better camera and better battery life, but just dont find a phone that size practical.
I know it’s not for everyone, but you do get used to the extra size really quickly.
Camera, yes. Better battery life like the Plus isn’t really possible without making the phone a lot thicker (which I don’t see Apple doing). The Plus has better life because bigger phone = bigger battery.
That’s pretty impressive video stabilization. Must be a combination of those extra pixels and extra power from the processor that are making this possible. Kinda sad that the video looks sharper than my DSLR.
