Fido Black Friday: 1GB Bonus Data for Select BYOD and Smart Plans

Fido’s Black Friday offer is 1GB of bonus data on select BYOD and Smart Plans nationwide, varying by province. For those outside of SK/MB/QC, 1GB of bonus data has been added to existing 1GB, 2GB, 3GB and 5GB BYOD plans. So that now works out to:

  • $49 for 1GB + 1GB bonus data
  • $57 for 2GB + 1GB bonus data (Updated to $57 for BYOD)
  • $69 for 3GB + 1GB bonus data
  • $84 for 5GB + 1GB bonus data

Screenshot 2015 11 26 22 41 07

In Quebec, we’re seeing bonus data added to 1GB, 2GB and 5GB BYOD plans:

  • $34 for 1GB + 1GB bonus data
  • $44 for 2GB + 1GB bonus data
  • $60 for 5GB + 1GB bonus data

Screenshot 2015 11 26 22 43 08

Fido has also added the 1GB bonus data to 2-year term Smart Plans (non SK/MB/QC below):

  • $64 for 1GB + 1GB bonus
  • $74 for 2GB + 1GB bonus
  • $84 for 3GB + 1GB bonus
  • $99 for 5GB + 1GB bonus

Quebec Smart Plans:

  • $49 for 1GB + 1GB bonus
  • $59 for 2GB + 1GB bonus
  • $75 for 5GB + 1GB bonus

If you were on the $34/1GB BYOD plan, you now have 2GB for the same price, which is a pretty decent deal. Users should be able to call in and switch over to these plans to gain bonus data, unless they are reserved for new customers only. Let us know what works for you!

Does Fido still have the “Add a Second Line with 10% off that Line” discount?

Gary

Yes. However, the 10% off BYOD stackable no longer applies for new accounts.

Sweet. But just so we’re clear. If I (or someone has an existing account) and they want to port in a number (say their partner) from another provider to “add the second line”, the partner will get the 10% off that new line. Right?

Gary

Yes. I moved my wife’s account from Koodo over to Fido and got 10% off the second line. If you call and ask they’ll verify it too over the phone.

You inspired us to do the same. Two Fido lines went from 1 to 2 Gb (lost a $4 discount on that part). Plus we switched our two 600 Mb Koodo lines and with the bonus and an extra promo, ended up at 2 Gb at $40 each. And we’ll get refer-a-friend bonuses in 90 days. And two years of Spotify, to boot. Thanks for the tips. (And no mention at all on the existing customer limit.)

Just wondering how you arrived at $40 for 2gb plan? I thought the plan is $49 originally, so wouldn’t a 10% discount mean $44?

Keep politely talking and asking.
Basically I gave the target price of what we pay now for 600 mb, and we ended up getting there with an extra promotional discount. That technically only lasts 6 months, but I was informed to call then and ask again, and they’d probably extend it. Long phone call, but worth it.

Thanks for the info:) My mom just ported her number from Rogers to Fido this afternoon. I didn’t know of this add-a-line-and-get-10%-off promo until reading the comments here. I don’t think it is advertised anywhere on Fido’s website(why the secrecy?) I’ll call Fido tomorrow to figure out if they’ll be able to do anything. Even just 10% off looks good, which translates into $66/year and much more in the long run

I’ve just checked and the bonus 1GB for Koodo is not accessible to existing customers unless they “upgrade their phones”.

According to this discussion at Koodo community at http://bit.ly/1PggDTK

This is just sad.

Hi guys, if I am currently on the old $56 2gb, would I be able to get the extra 1gb?

I’d be interested in knowing as well. Looked at the website and the promo says ‘for new customers’.

I’m on the old $56 Smart plan and it came with the $5 value pack included in the price. For me the 2,500 cfwd minutes was really useful. I think I’m going to save the extra $1 and use it if I every go over. Typically I can get by with 1GB/mth on some rare occasions I hit 1.5GB, like last month due to streaming a HD youtube video.

You can have the $49 2GB data plan. Then Add a $5 value pack with visual voicemails and 2500 cfwd mins. The total will be $54, two dollars less than your $56 plan. The only con is that you will not be able to save the Fido Dollars anymore.

They’ll probably ask you to pay an extra dollar for the $57 plan.

I can confirm for you guys that Fido will let current customers switch. I just switched my current $65 3GB no-contract plan to the discounted $57 2+1GB plan.

I just tried as well and was told $57 is a typo and they would not honour it.
Price is $59.

They told me $59 as well, I told them the website said $57. After a breif hold, they confirmed my account was set for $57.
Glad to see I wasn’t the only one who got that response.

On a side note, called Fido today, mentioned keywords of switching to “KOODO” or “VIRGIN”, rep gave $5/month credits for 6 months for my line, issued a $25 credit for my wife’s line. Does not hurt to ask, or be really, really nice

Anybody know if the extra GB of data expires in 2 years like Koodo? or you can keep it as long as you want?

Tom Gray

2 years. I seen it in the fine print, can’t remember exactly where though. Other carriers are also showing for two years as well.

Hey, thanks for the reply. Just called Fido this afternoon and had my plan updated. Their staff said they didn’t find any expired date for the 1 GB bonus data. So it seems like it is not supposed to expire in two years. But it still confused me ’cause they couldn’t give me a definite answer. One thing for sure, the Spotify will expire in 2 years though…

Got my extra 1 GB to my 2gb $57 plan, added to my existing plan without and hassle. Only issue was it took about an 25 minutes on hold, then about 15 minutes for the girls computer to process because they’re being hammered by callers hah.

did you lose anything at all from what you had? I’ve been on hold for over 30 mins *sigh* what we do for that extra 1gb!

Tom Gray

Nope didn’t lose a single thing. I was on hold for 30 minutes, and the girls computer was so slow it took an extra 15 minutes for her to process the change.

No changes to my account in any way, just got an extra GB

I just got off the phone with Fido and if I added this 1 gb to my $56/m 2 gb data grandfathered plan, I would loose 1) my visual voice mail 2) my 10% loyalty discount, so it’s a no go for me. I guess I should start shopping around,

I so angry at FIDO. Maybe time for me to switch as well. As above, I switched to extra GB for $57 but they keep emailing me $59 and only 2 GB . I have to hope somehow it magically gets fixed. Time wasted dealiong with CSR and “Manager” can never be recouped.
