Apple to Release macOS Sierra, iOS 10 Public Beta Today [u]

The public beta of Apple’s next-generation desktop operating system, macOS Sierra, will be available for download sometime today, The Verge reports. CNET says public beta of iOS 10 is coming too.

This means all the features Apple’s SVP Craig Federighi highlighted at the WWDC will be coming to your (spare) Mac if you have enrolled in the Apple Beta Software Program: Siri for the Mac, iCloud backup, and Continuity.

The Verge has previewed macOS Sierra and found the beta version of the operating system relatively stable, but, as Dieter Bohn says, “there are still going to be some rough edges that make it a bad choice if you depend on your computer.”

The public beta already has changes since the first beta available to developers. One of the most important changes noted by Dieter is that Siri has a new keyboard combination: CMD-Space (used for Spotlight) and holding for a bit.

This could be a bit confusing, but it has both good and bad points: good because you now have two options to search for files on your Mac – using Spotlight or Siri – but the bad thing, as mentioned by Dieter after testing the new OS, is that both Spotlight and Siri do similar things, so it’s not at all clear which one you should use at any given moment.

Are you planning to download the public beta of macOS Sierra and iOS 10?

Update: The first public beta of iOS 10 is now live.
