Pokemon GO iOS Battery Saver Mode Returns, “Nearby” Tracker Debuts

After removing their battery saver mode in iOS to diagnose the feature, Niantic has brought the feature back to Pokemon GO’s latest update, along with an improved beta Nearby feature and more.

The app now also reminds Trainers to confirm they’re not playing while driving, while also allows you to change your nickname one time, and improved the throws of curveballs. The full change log is below:

– Added a dialog to remind Trainers that they should not play while traveling above a certain speed. Trainers must confirm they are not driving in order to continue playing
– Made improvements to the accuracy of a curveball throw
– Fixed a bug that prevented ”Nice,” ”Great,” and “Excellent” Poké Ball throws from awarding the appropriate experience bonuses
– Fixed achievements showing incorrect Medal icons
– Enabled the ability for Trainers to change their nickname one time, so please choose your new nickname wisely
– Resolved issues with the battery saver mode and re-enabled this feature
– Added visuals of Team leaders – Candela, Blanche and Spark
– We’re currently testing a variation of the “Nearby Pokémon” feature with a subset of users. During this period you may see some variation in the nearby Pokémon UI.
– Minor text fixes

Here’s a video of the new Nearby feature in action (via TechCrunch):

The image below describes the tracking feature in more detail, which now shows where Pokemon are in your area in relation to Pokestops. Under the Sightings heading, this just shows Pokemon out in the wild:

Gary, I find it preposterous to keep reporting that silly app. Others feel the same way about as well. You should check the comments.
As I suggested last week,
if you feel strongly about that silly app, maybe you should consider
creating a separate site for it, or at least create a separate tab for
it on this site next to the Main/Deals/etc .. That way the fans can get
their fill of the app news, while the rest of us have the site we used
to have.

The article titles are clear so if you don’t want to read anything about Pokemon then skip over the articles. It’s really not hard. There are many people out there who prefer a site with consolidated news where we can pick and choose which articles to read. You are not forced to read articles you don’t want to. Please do not pretend to speak for all iPiC readers.

And before I get flamed: I don’t play the game, but I sure like reading about it and what’s going on with the phenomenon.

Thanks Janker, many agree with your point of view.

Gary, perhaps more worthwhile would be doing in depth app reviews, especially apps that canadians can use.

the few reviews that are done are quite good, and really help explore the cloudy space of apps in iOS.

I totally agree.
Gary, your time and talent should be used to provide app and accessories reviews for iPhone Canadian users, instead of that stupid game.

…and i am sure you read Gary’s response… we can’t please everybody!! Here’s the thing, Gary runs this site to provide interesting news, and interesting is a subjective word, some might find it interesting, and some might now. You don’t find Pokemon news interesting, but many do… so it’s better to have them here so that those who find these news interesting can read them, and those who don’t (like yourself) can skip. Not the end of the world for you to skip.. is it?

Anyways, after Mark Ritter rudely blasted this site. Yes I agree there is too much Pokemon Go news (and have joked around that it should be called PokemonGoInCanada). But you have to remember Pokemon Go is a hot topic on both iDevices and Android, so get used to it.

Also, that warning in game that stops people from playing it while driving, people (the drivers I mean) can just sinply lie and push the “Im a passenger” button to continue playing while driving. I noticed that option hopping on the skytrain.

Side note, i kinda like how much back and forth banter this pokemon go stuff is getting on this site. i browse a lot of topics on here with little to no comments.

Mark:
You have made 3 comments within this article and the one you sited. Each comment has one upvote – wow what overwhelming support.

Your entitled comments have been responded to on the two articles you mentioned, commenting that you can read what you want like everybody else does and you have yet to provide a solid rationale of why that is not a good solution. Incidentally these responses to you have received 3-4 times the number of upvotes as your comments.

On a site like this with huge readership you think because you and a few people you know don’t like something that it’s a significant reader viewpoint that Gary should change his whole site around for? You would have no way to know the portion of all readers who feel that way based on the info you gave. You would be better off asking Gary how many people read Pokemon articles or something so you could start to amass evidence of how many people like the articles. Although that number would be off since people like you who apparently don’t like them spend a lot of time reading them and their comments.

Anyways, clearly your rationale to move or remove Pokemon articles doesn’t make sense and is probably the only “silly” and “preposterous” thing to read on this page. Actually I’m sitting with a few people now who agree with me about your comment being the only silly thing and one of the people is about to upvote my comment so I think that’s enough to request: Gary could you please change Mark’s name to Mark “Silly” Ritter and put all of his comments on their own page so other people don’t have to read them?

I’m a long-time reader and I consider myself a site follower for the most part.
I have to admit that I’ve never commented on articles before, but I find those series of PokemonGO articles to becoming annoying.
I under that there are percentage of your readers like the game, but the coverage is disproportionate to the game. I’m not into games that much, but I don’t recall having any game coverage as intense as the way you did with PokemonGO.
The site is called iPhoneinCanada, and it seems that lately it’s slowly becoming iPokemonGOinCanada.

What a stupid game!!!!!
I would normally defend people’s right to express their opinions, but that game is really stupid.
I’m surprised that some people want to prevent others from sharing their views on a game, particularly when it’s really stupid game.
