Rogers is Reportedly Building its Own Messaging Service Called ‘En Route’

According to a new report from MobileSyrup, Rogers is looking to build its own messaging service, which is currently dubbed “En Route.”

The name for the dedicated messaging platform was leaked in a filing to the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO), which shows that Rogers is working on new service called “En Route.” The filing describes the service as a “wireless digital messaging service” that provides customers with support for technical related problems.

There are currently no other details regarding the plan, but MobileSyrup notes that the messaging service could be something the carrier integrates into their current MyRogers app.

Score 1 for originality. Expect to see cellphone plan rate hikes if you’re with them or Fido.

I honestly don’t know why they are even bothering. People are not going to switch from iMessage, SMS or whatsapp to use this service. Here’s a tip Rogers: create an IPTV service instead.

Or or find a way to skirt the regulations about zero-rating services on cellphones and let me watch Gamecentre without costing me data. Oh and maybe let me watch hockey games in my own regional without those infuriating blackouts.

Some cute co-op student likely wearing a short dress made an impression on someone in management and so Rogers decided to go with whatever she had to say.
