iPhone 7 Users Complaining of Poor Battery Life

According to a Business Insider report, a number of iPhone 7 users are complaining of poor battery life, with some saying it’s even worse than the iPhone 6s. Furthermore, leading publications such as The Guardian, Geek.com and Which? are all saying that Apple’s latest flagship phone has the worst battery life compared to the competition, which includes HTC 10, Samsung Galaxy S7 and LG G5.

Which

However, most of these claims are overblown and are likely aimed at hurting Apple. The Guardian says in its review that the iPhone 7 has a smaller battery than previous generation iPhones, so does the Which report, which is certainly surprising since Which’s testing and Apple’s own product specifications show that the iPhone 7 has a higher-capacity battery than the iPhone 6s.

The iPhone 7 has a 1,960 mAh battery, while the iPhone 6s had a 1,810 mAh battery. It’s not a huge leap, but it is indeed bigger. A larger battery doesn’t necessarily mean longer life. How efficiently the phone’s hardware and software use power is also a factor. But generally, the bigger the battery the more life you can pack into it.

Bank of America Merrill Lynch conducted a survey of US consumers and found that longer battery life was a reason cited by 65% of consumers for upgrading to the iPhone 7.

The report does not comment on battery life of the iPhone 7 Plus but as far as I can tell, it’s definitely better than the iPhone 6s Plus. What’s your experience with the iPhone 7 / 7 Plus battery life?

I’ve found exactly the opposite. I have incredible battery life with my 7. I previously had a 6 and my wife has a 6s. This thing runs circles around those devices in terms of battery (and everything else too).

I found that my iPhone 7 Plus does not have better battery life than my iPhone 6S Plus. I sometime have to plug around 19h00 so I can have enough charge until I go to bed. Never had to do this with my iPhone 6s Plus… I’m really not using it that much, maybe 30 minutes of radio streaming and 30 minutes with the screen on watching stuff, not much phone.

Went from iPhone 6 to iPhone 7. Battery life was terrible for the first few days, but after I depleted it to 0% and fully charge it a few times, it has improved significantly.

Overall, I would say it’s in the same ballpark as iPhone 6 (give or take an hour), but this phone is much faster and has additional (battery draining) features that iPhone 6 didn’t, such as:

– 3D Touch
– Haptic Feedback
– Raise to Wake (although i’m not a huge fan of how this works)

I knew it would be worse than the 6 Plus, so I got myself a Smart Case for the occasional times I need longer battery life. Loving the smaller size though, and I wouldn’t go back. 🙂

Skip the fullscreen iMessage animations which requires one to turn off Reduce Motion which is a extreme battery consumer. After I did that, battery like on the iPhone 7 Plus was great.

My 7 Plus is lasting way longer than my 6 Plus. With the 6 Plus I would sometimes be at 80% after just surfing for a bit before getting out of bed. I was normally at 50% by noon and that was after keeping it plugged in while I showered and while I was driving. My 7 Plus has been lasting the whole day so far. At first I was charging it quite frequently out of habit but now I’ve settled into just trusting the battery. Sitting at 92% right now and it’s been unplugged since I woke up.

Battery life is about the same on my 7 plus as it was on the 6s plus. Lasts longer than my Galaxy S7 Edge.

The graph above seems to be seriously wrong, or made by an Android user.

According to apple.ca it states the iPhone 7 plus has 21 hours on 3g talk and iPhone 6s plus has 24 hours on 3g talk. So I don’t know how people are getting better battery on the 7 vs. 6s.

I did find initially my iPhone 7 Plus was not lasting as long as I expected, however I disabled “raise to wake” and that seemed to make a difference. I suspect it is because I fidget with my phone a lot, so the screen was coming on all the time.
