HSBC Canada Apple Pay Support for Mastercards Coming Says Apple

Earlier today, Apple’s support document on Apple Pay added Interac debit card support for Tangerine, then later took it away. But there was one more addition to the page as well: HSBC Canada and their Mastercards, as seen below:

HSBC Canada’s most recent Twitter response to Apple Pay in early May said:

“We are trying to go digital as much as possible. Apple pay is one of the features that we want to bring to HSBC. Unfortunately, we don’t have the date yet. Rest assured we will inform all our customers when the option will be available.”

Apple hasn’t removed reference to this yet for HSBC Canada, so if you were waiting to hear support for Apple Pay, it could be coming soon. Hopefully WWDC will bring news of further Apple Pay support in Canada.

Update: HSBC’s website has a landing page for Apple Pay, as seen below:

No it’s not

What are you looking for in a credit? For example good cashback or stuff like that.

I’m currently on American Express SimplyCash. Not many places accept it.
PC Financial is still blunt on not accepting the debit version.

Tangerine MasterCard: no annual fee, 3 categories at 2% cash back (selectable) and all other purchases at 0,5% cash back. Cash back is paid monthly, no hassle. Supports ApplePay.

Scotia hasn’t crippled it yet (they just changed the default cash back percentage from 1% to 0,5% and raised the foreign transaction fee from 1,5% to 2,5%).

I use my Amazon.ca Visa when travelling abroad or making foreign currency purchases (it has no foreign transaction fee). It also gives 1% cash back on all purchases – and 2% on Amazon.ca ones. They credit your account every time you accumulate 20$ in rewards. It’s not ApplePay enabled though.

I personally prefer the Rogers MasterCard for my foreign purchases.

If it’s anything like the Fido card, their 4% cash back on foreign purchases offsets the 2,5% foreign transaction fees. What I don’t like about their offer is the lack of flexibility with the rewards.

The PC World Elite MasterCard is a great card for Shoppers Drug Mart and Loblaws grocery stores.
