Snapchat Debuts ‘Snap Map’ Location Sharing Feature

Aimed at getting you to meet up with your friends in real-life rather than just following each other on your phones, Snapchat has today introduced a new location sharing feature called ‘Snap Map’. According to TechCrunch, the feature allows you to share your current location, which appears to your friends on a map and updates when you open Snapchat on iOS or Android.

We’ve built a whole new way to explore the world! See what’s happening, find your friends, and get inspired to go on an adventure!

It’s easy to get started — just pinch to zoom out and view the Map! You decide if you want to share your location with friends, or simply keep it to yourself with Ghost Mode.

If your friends are sharing their location with you, their Actionmoji will appear on the Map. Actionmojis only update when you open Snapchat.

Users can either share their location with all their friends or a few friends they might select. The feature also lets you disappear from the map at any time by going into Ghost Mode or not opening Snapchat for a few hours. The new location sharing is turned off by default and you are also free to leave it that way.

You can access the Snap Map by pinching on your Snapchat camera home screen. You can then scroll around to see where friends are in your city or around the world. Tapping on their “ActionMoji” BitMoji avatar opens their Story to show what they’re up to, or lets you message them directly to make meetup plans.
