Apple’s Free iOS App of the Week: Day One Journal

Day One Journal by Bloom Built is Apple’s free app of the week. The app normally retails for $19.99 and is free for this week only.

The app, which features an elegant and minimalistic interface, allows users to keep in a daily journal of their own private thoughts.

However, with the release of a new version of the application (bearing the build number 2.3.2) for free, the company decided to launch a subscription called Day One Premium. Here are the additional features you get as a premium subscriber:

  • Unlimited Photo Storage
  • Unlimited Journals
  • Cloud sync to all Day One apps
  • Unlimited encrypted cloud storage
  • Automated Entries (IFTT integration)
  • 25% Book Printing Discount
  • Prioritized customer support

Day One Journal is available as a free download (normally $19.99) from the App Store. The app requires any iOS device running iOS 10.0 or later and contains in-app purchases ranging from $5.49 to $34.99.

Loved the original version and would have liked to get the new one but no iCloud *thumbs down*. Not only do they force users to use their own sync but now they want you to pay $35 US/yr for a subscription…RIP Day one! I suppose it might be possible if you only use one device but then you’d have to export to back up manually (unless there’s another way).

I know it’s a business and they need to make money, but personally I would rather pay a one time fee for the app itself, let me sync how I want to sync and offer a subscription to sync with Day One for those that want to go that route.

A Journal app? Lol. Just use good old free Notes app, or One Note.
