AlwaysOnline Wireless (AOW), a global 4G LTE network that offers affordable and reliable cellular data to international travellers and people on the go, has today announced that its Global Data SIM is now available in all Staples locations across Canada. Previously, the service was only available via iPad with Apple SIM, but AOW recently expanded its offering with the Global Data SIM.
Each SIM can be loaded with a data plan specific to the country being visited. Travellers can choose to pre-schedule their plans or buy them on the go, giving them immediate data access while travelling. AOW offers a variety of affordable plans, in increments as short as one hour, one day, or larger data plans from 500MB up to 5GB.
“AOW still offers Canadians better value than most roaming packages being offered by carriers,” says Christian Paul, VP of Marketing for Otono Networks, the parent company of AOW. “Let’s say you’re travelling to France for 10 days. Most carrier roaming packages will end up costing you around $100 for the entire trip. With AOW it would only cost $38 for 1GB of 4G LTE data. That’s significant savings.”

While a global data SIM would be ideal. The prices are pretty dam high as opposed to getting a SIM in a country and paying the cost.
Are Canadians considered international travelers if we travel to the USA?
I personally think they do. I know at Vancouver International Airport there is a separate domestic and international (including USA) terminal. I know that doesn’t answer your question but I think the USA would consider Canadians international. Using baseball terminology, Inter-league means AL vs. NL but intra-league is AL vs. AL. So since we are North America maybe the USA should consider Canadians Intra-national. I’m not trying to be a smartass I’m just bored at this moment.
I personally feel they don’t.
US departure or arrivals is separate from international departures/arrivals. The only similarity they have is they’re situated in the same building.
Actually, I think you’re right. When I fly from Vancouver to the USA, even when I do a connection and I get off the plane I am often surrounded by flight gates heading somewhere else in the USA. In Seattle, I often see gates with non North American flights, such as London. I don’t travel a lot, I guess I was looking at the other way when I come back to YVR international and USA are coming through one exit. I guess its because you have to come through Customs first and its in one area.
What US carrier does AOW roam on?
I’ve used Roam mobility before and didn’t have much luck roaming on T-Mobile where I was staying in Phoenix.
My wife and I used our Fido Pulse Roaming on two phones this summer for the first time. $5 a day for seamless transition of our regular data/phone plan was pretty simple. I’d say it was nice not to have to worry about getting a big bill, but I did worry anyway. Ended up searching the website to ensure we weren’t going to get dinged with high changes. And still felt uneasy as we landed in the Vegas airport without turning off data roaming like we normally would have done. But it all worked out as promised.
The US plan for 1GB at 7.99 is pretty much the only reasonable plan of AOW. Picked up a sim as it’s cheaper than my current T-Mobile prepaid. But some plans in other countries is daylight robbery. For example, 3GB plan in India is $139 compared to a local sim with 5GB for less than $10
