WindshieldInk Licence Plate Reading App May Help Children and Pets Trapped in Cars

WindshieldInk is a new enterprise app that will let you send messages to anyone who has signed up. The difference between this and other messaging apps is that the method of contact is your licence plate.
Ken and Glenna Kuchling, the creators of the app, have admitted that there are other similar apps on the market. However, the creators of this particular app are looking to market theirs in a slightly different way.

“For company fleet management, it’s an updated 1-800-How’s-My-Driving. For police forces, it could allow the public to input suspected stolen vehicles or trailers to more readily locate them.”

The marketing for them is focused on young children and dogs left in cars. This is a huge issue in North America, with already 26 children dying of heat stroke this year alone. There are no similar stats for dogs, however, the police expect the number to be similar.

In a statement, Ken said:

“In Ontario, you can use the Windshieldink mobile app to send an email message directly and instantly to the SPCA. Simply enter #SPCA in the license plate/#ID field of the mobile app, select ‘Ontario’ as the origin, input your message, verify the #ID, and hit ‘send’. We recommend that you tag your ‘signature’ and GPS location into your message. The whole process takes less than 30 seconds and the message is emailed directly to the SPCA. They will get a clickable map link showing where you are located and if you included your phone number, they can call you back.”

For the app to be successful, they are going to have to get a vast number of drivers signed up.
