Packed with personalized guidance, on-device dynamic workouts and more, Fitbit has just introduced its first ever ‘Ionic’ smartwatch, featuring a new relative SpO2 sensor, industry-leading GPS tracking, improved heart rate tracking and water resistance up to 50 meters. In addition, it also supports smart features like contactless payments, on-board music, smart notifications, and a variety of popular apps in the Fitbit App Gallery.

“With Ionic, we will deliver what consumers have not yet seen in a smartwatch – a health and fitness first platform that combines the power of personalization and deeper insights with our most advanced technology to date, unlocking opportunities for unprecedented health tracking capabilities in the future”, said James Park, co-founder and CEO of Fitbit.

Users will also be able to make payments using Fitbit Pay. Over the coming months, users will be able to add eligible American Express cards, as well as Mastercard and Visa credit and debit cards from top issuing banks in over 10 markets across the globe, including ANZ, Banco Santander, Bank of America, Capital One, HSBC, KBC Bank Ireland, OCBC Bank, Royal Bank of Canada, UOB and US Bank.

In addition to these new features, Ionic has everything you love about Fitbit, such as automatically tracking your steps, calories, floors climbed and sleep stages, cardio fitness level or estimated VO2 Max, and more.

Have no idea what the heck Fitbit is smoking. $400 Canadian for the Ionic!!! I am sorry but the cheapest Apple 2 Series watch starts at $359. Apple watch does more than the Ionic and is better quality. For me the only thing that puts Fitbit over Apple is the Fitbit app which I use everyday. Call me when the Ionic is $100 cheaper.

WTF? Price gouging on Fitbit Canada’s part? $300 US today translates to $374 Canadian. Gouged again. If I ever ordered a Fitbit it certainly wouldn’t be from the Canadian website. Just like with Camera gear it is always cheaper to buy it from one of the large New York City camera stores, get it shipped, pay customs, exchange of dollar and it is STILL cheaper ALWAYS than in Canada.
