Videotron Launches VoLTE, Available for BYOD and iPhone But Not Android [u]

Earlier this month, we told you Videotron in Quebec was testing VoLTE, and now it appears the service has gone live, as detailed by the company’s updated VoLTE page on their website.

Iphone7 ios11 settings cellular cellular data options enable lte crop

Videotron says VoLTE will allow users to make HD calls over LTE thanks to wide band audio support. According to the company, VoLTE will be available for BYOD (bring your own device) customers that are using compatible iPhones, but currently the feature is not available for Android customers:

Customers subscribed to a Videotron service but with no agreement, and who own an unlocked VoLTE-compatible iPhone with VoLTE SIM card can use the VoLTE feature. However, they need to activate the feature before being able to use it.

Customers subscribed to a Videotron service but with no agreement, and who own an Android device cannot use the VoLTE feature.

How to enable VoLTE? You’ll need an iPhone 6 or newer and a VoLTE SIM card. Videotron says customers should go to the Information on Your Device section in the Customer Centre to see if you meet the requirements. It may be worth contacting Videotron to ensure you will be eligible for VoLTE.

On your iPhone, just go to:

Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Enable LTE. If Voice & Data is off, tap it to turn on VoLTE.

Apple hasn’t updated their VoLTE page to indicate support from Videotron, yet.

Let us know if you’re able to get VoLTE up and running on your iPhone 6 or newer.

Thanks Marc

Update Oct. 31/17: Videotron says VoLTE works right now on iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus:

I don’t see it in my iPhone 6s

you need to call or chat with CS to get the VOLTE option added on your account.
also customer service said to me that it works for iPhone 7 or newer.

that said, I have a compatible sim card installed in my iPhone 7 bought from Apple.
Apparently, it’s supposed to work after a reboot… but still not volte on my device. I will wait and test it later tonight or tomorrow morning. Maybe we will need iOS 11.1 stable version… which should come shortly since 11.2 was just released.

This is the usual menu. If you don’t see the menu EXACTLY as it is on their website, VoLTE is not yet enabled.

The VoLTE page is up and running, yes, but we did not receive any confirmation from Videotron. Everyone is still on the 29.0 Carrier version. I see two three things that might happen, don’t know which will happen though :

1) there will be a carrier update enabling the feature.

2) it will be enabled with iOS 11.1 or any future update.

3) it will be enabled any minute now.

We will see 🙂

I’m on carrier 30.0 that came with iOS 11.1 public beta. Still no VoLTE.
Probably a 30.1 carrier update coming later this week.

and also, as of today, they can enable it in our account… so yes, it’s coming.

Possible… iOS 11.2 is in beta now too so we never know…

To be very honest with you, a technician confirmed that it won’t come out in 2017. They are encountering some issues and they prefer to enable it later, making sure that it’s good and stable… so 2018 as he told me.

But I’m trying to stay positive…

Anyone has working VoLTE on their device?

To me it looks like that it’s not available yet even if Vidéotron has the VoLTE faq online now

Apple has been contacted. Videotron has not yet let them know that they support VoLTE.

Let’s wait and see… it’s a pretty amateur move to show the FAQ before the actual thing is out.

I was on the latest 11.1 beta. just got a carrier update file to 30.1… which enabled volte.
I will try later if calls are really switching to volte now.

ok calls are still switching to 3G for me. it may be something “local” or not fully activated in my account.
I will try later when I’m at home in Montreal.

Videotron’s technicians are only confirming that it works for iPhone 7 and 7 Plus on their Twitter page, and they seem 1000% certain that they’re right… Weird, because it’s working more than perfectly on my iPhone 8… they seem a bit misinformed in my opinion.

Working now! It take a sim compatible with VOLTE, VOLTE option in your account and iOS 11.1 with Videotron 30.1 carrier version.

question for everyone who has VoLTE working…
will it use VoLTE for all calls or only calls to specific numbers?

ok thanks!
so definitely something going on with my device… either I’m connected to a tower that somewhat doesn’t have VoLTE (I’m currently in St-Hyacinthe, Qc)… or maybe something not enabled in my account (in my online account, device info still showing device not compatible while sim cart is in fact compatible).
