Uber Celebrates One Year Anniversary of Launching in Calgary
Uber is celebrating its one year anniversary of launching in Calgary. Under the new bylaws, the ride-sharing service provides residents with a safe and reliable means of transportation.
In a statement, the general manager of Uber for Western Canada Ramit Kar said:
“We are excited and honoured to celebrate the first year of Uber in Calgary. This accomplishment wouldn’t be possible without our wonderful driver-partners and the welcoming people of Calgary. We are looking forward to providing a reliable transportation option for local residents and visitors alike for years to come.”
MADD Canada National President Patricia Hynes-Coates said that having Uber as an option lessens the chance that people will drive while impaired, reducing the number of incidents on the road. In a statement, she said:
“Having a safe, reliable and convenient transportation option such as Uber lessens the chance that people will drive impaired. That reduces crashes and saves lives. We thank the Uber driver-partners who are getting customers home safely, and we thank the riders who are making the responsible choice to arrange a safe, sober ride home.”
To celebrate the anniversary, Uber has shared some statistics and trends:
- Saturday, July 8th, opening weekend for the Calgary Stampede, was the busiest day on record for Uber drivers in Calgary
- The longest trip in 2017 occurred when a rider hailed their Uber at Calgary International Airport and travelled more than 420 kilometres to Revelstoke, BC
