Bell Canada Sells AlarmForce’s Western Operations to Telus for $66.5 Million

Telus is buying the western operations of AlarmForce home monitoring from Bell Canada.

The telecom giant is expected to pay about $66.5 million to acquire approximately 39,000 customer accounts in British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. This represents nearly 40 percent of AlarmForce’s total customer base in Canada.

Bell Canada paid a total of $182 million to acquire the home monitoring company in a deal that closed on Friday. Current AlarmForce customers will not notice any immediate changes, as Bell is working closely with Telus to ensure a smooth transition.

Telus is looking forward to integrating all AlarmForce employees into its business. Bell Canada said that AlarmForce CEO Graham Badun has agreed to stay on as a special advisor for six months.

Wow, this stinks. This kind of collusion should be illegal. The Big 3 are supposed to be competing with one another. If they’re not going to do that, then maybe they should go back to being a public utility?

Bell has a lot of fixed line internet connections in the East and Telus does in the west. Probably makes a lot of sense for them really.

Yeah it does, but that’s not how competition is supposed to work. The Big 3 never actually compete with each other, and as a result Canadians end up paying the highest rates in the world.
