Facebook Messenger Launches Discover Tab in Canada

Last year, Facebook announced Messenger would get a new Discover tab at F8 2017, allowing customers in the U.S. first to discover new businesses.

Now, the feature is starting to roll out in Canada as of today, the company informs iPhone in Canada in a statement, which “makes it easy and simple for people to find and browse bots and business Pages.”

Here’s what the Discover tab offers:

  • Free-form search field: Find the bots and Pages you are looking for.
  • Recently Used: Shows you the bots and businesses you recently interacted with.
  • Featured: A representation of the full range of experiences available in Messenger. Helps people find bots to explore.
  • Categories: Bots and businesses organized by topic. Refreshed frequently so you can find new experiences. There are two expanded categories that are rotated out on a regular basis

How to use the new Discover tab? The icon should appear in the bottom right of your Messenger home screen. We aren’t seeing it yet on our iPhone, but it’s rolling out today over-the-air.

According to Facebook, The Score, L’Oreal, National Bank, Radio Canada (French) and PyeongChang2018 will be among the 12 bots featured at launch in the Canadian Discover tab.

Martin Aubut, Chief Digital Officer, L’Oréal Canada, told iPhone in Canada in a statement, “L’Oréal believes that beauty is for everyone, and with so many people connecting each day on Messenger we knew we had to chat with our customers there. The level of engagement, and positive feedback we’ve received has been rewarding, and now that we’re learning about our customers in their own words we anticipate being able to deliver an even better and more personalized experience for them.”
