Apple to End iTunes Support for Apple TV 1st Gen, Windows XP/Vista in May

Apple says starting on May 25, 2018, iTunes Store availability will end for the first generation Apple TV, along with Windows XP or Vista PCs.

The company says new “security changes” will prevent Windows XP or Vista PCs from using the iTunes Store, which means users won’t be able to make new purchases or redownload old purchases on these computers.

As for Apple TV first generation users, the same goes for this device, which is already an ‘obsolete’ Apple product. Users seeking iTunes access will have to upgrade to a newer model, such as Apple TV 2 or later. The first gen Apple TV debuted back in January 2007.

This is illegal as it is entirely an arbitrary choice. Queue the lawsuits!

I wish Apple would just end iTunes period. A sloppy, slow, archaic tool that is completely unnecessary in 2018. Tying Apple Music to iTunes is the main thing keeping me a Spotify subscriber.
