Google Maps for iOS Now Shows Average Restaurant Wait Times
Google Maps for iOS has been updated to now bring estimated restaurant wait times, to help you plan your eating out adventures a bit better.
The feature is shown under the ‘Popular times’ area (which debuted last fall), and if available for a restaurant, you will now see an hourglass icon that shows ‘Wait’ and an estimated time.
In our screenshot below, you can see it in action for The Keg (it wasn’t available for Jam Cafe, which is notorious for long lines):

You can also swipe to another day and tap on any hour to see estimated average wait times. Google says this new ‘wait’ feature is available for over a million restaurants worldwide and it looks to include locations in Canada.
The update also says you can now search and sort through reviews of a place as well, to help you decide on where to eat (won’t matter because most reviews are ‘fake news’ anyways).

I don’t even google restaurants anymore. I just google maps them or yelp ?
Me too. Restaurant websites are unusually awful – rarely do they put anything useful up front like their hours or location.
It’s like their Facebook page. They only have it “just because” but have virtually no useful information. Anyway, time to close your FB account anyway and have it end up like MySpace.
And the reviews there are more bogus than Yelp or TripAdvisor.
There should be a caveat in the headline and it should read for *some* restaurants.
At some point all of this instant-review and rating gratification gets out of control, perhaps it already has. Consult Black Mirror episode: Nosedive (Season 3 Episode 1) for more info.
