iBooks Said to Get Revamp with New ‘Today’ Discovery Tab in Upcoming Update

According to Japanese site Mac Otakara, Apple is planning numerous hires in efforts to revamp iBooks, as the next version of the app is said to include a ‘Today’ tab, and other curated discovery features we currently experience in the App Store since the latter’s overhaul iOS 11.

The news corroborates a previous report from Bloomberg in January, which said Apple was set to redesign iBooks, to look more like the App Store in iOS 11. New sections could include a ‘Reading Now’ plus a tab for audiobooks. In an earlier beta of iOS 11.3, Apple renamed iBooks to ‘Books’, but was reversed in a later beta.

New job listings on LinkedIn point to the search for an iBooks Editor, with one position located in London, England, posted two days ago.

Apple recently acquired digital magazine service Texture, which was partly owned by Rogers Media. It’ll be interesting how this acquisition will integrate into the next version of iBooks.
