Apple (PRODUCT)RED iPhone 8/8 Plus Launches in Canada April 13

Apple has announced this morning a new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition, in a “stunning red finish.” This new colour will be available for preorder starting April 10 in Canada and select countries starting April 10, with a launch set for Friday, April 13.

iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition will be available in 64GB and 256GB, with pricing starting in Canada at $929. This year, Apple has added a black front face to the phone, unlike last year’s white face on (PRODUCT)RED iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, which some users did not prefer.

There’s also a new (PRODUCT)RED iPhone X Leather Folio launching tomorrow, priced at $129 CAD.

“This special edition (PRODUCT)RED iPhone features a stunning red and black colour combination and also offers customers the opportunity to make an impact in fighting the spread of HIV and AIDS,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of Product Marketing, in a statement. “iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus improve on everything we love about iPhone, including Retina HD displays that are more beautiful than ever, the most powerful and smartest chip ever in a smartphone with the A11 Bionic and more advanced cameras for unbelievable photos and videos. We are proud to support (RED) with this bold new iPhone and hope customers think it is as special as we do.”

Apple says a portion of proceeds for all (PRODUCT)RED purchases contribute directly to the Global Fund to fight HIV/AIDS. Since 2006, Apple has donated over $160 million to the fund, and is the largest corporate donor to the organization.

“Today’s announcement is further evidence of Apple’s leadership in and commitment to the AIDS fight since the beginning of (RED) in 2006,” said Deborah Dugan, (RED)’s CEO, in a statement. “The more than $160 million Apple has donated in the last 11 years today equates to more than 800 million days of lifesaving ARV medication that prevents the transmission of HIV from mothers to their babies. We’re honoured that Apple has dedicated its resources to our purpose, and can’t wait to see customers bring our mission to life through the purchase of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition.”

iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition pre-orders will start on April 10 after 5:30AM PDT for Canada, along with Australia, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, the UK and the US.

Brazil, Denmark, Ireland, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, UAE and other countries and regions will follow later in April, explains Apple, with Chile, Colombia, India, Israel, Turkey and other countries and regions gaining the new colour in May.

Yesterday, a memo from U.S. carrier Virgin Mobile leaked the news of a (PRODUCT)RED iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, but it did not reveal the new iPhone X Leather Folio.

Last year, Apple similarly offered iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in (PRODUCT)RED for a limited time. It would have been nice to see iPhone X in (PRODUCT)RED this year, as so far the latest iPhone is only available in two colours.
