Apple Says All iOS 11 App Updates Must Support iPhone X in July

Apple announced today to developers new iOS 11 updates must support the company’s iPhone X by this summer.

The news was shared on Apple’s developer website, which explained “Starting July 2018, all iOS app updates submitted to the App Store must be built with the iOS 11 SDK and must support the Super Retina display of iPhone X.”

Apple says “iOS 11 delivers innovative features and the redesigned App Store to hundreds of millions of customers around the world. Your apps can deliver more intelligent, unified, and immersive experiences with Core ML, ARKit, new camera APIs, new SiriKit domains, Apple Music integration, drag and drop for iPad, and more.”

Last fall, when iPhone X was released, Apple similarly encouraged developers to update their apps for iPhone X, but now the requirement is in place with a set deadline.

If you’ve been waiting for your apps to get updated for iPhone X already, the next update by July will support your smartphone. #saygoodbyetoblackbars

Ridiculous. iOS 11 is the most buggiest iPhone update ever.

This is a developer requirement, not an end-user one,

Yes. I realize that. Since 11.x is buggy I’d be reluctant to comply with Apple’s direction.

developers must be mad asf since they have to work on their app and modify it…. its honestly a great thing for the consumer, since we know who cares about their apps. the ones that are the best developers keep their app updated at least once a month, i noticed facebook and google update their apps bit dont describe a true description on what they have changed. They are the worst. why should i even update if the app works perfect?

i love this decision. I work for a huge financial company and they have yet to update their mobile app (insurance division) and it pisses me off. I DESPISE seeing the empty black space. Thank you for this apple. Its going to finally give them the kick in the ass they need
