Apple Orders English-Language Adaptation of “Calls” From Canal+

According to a report by Variety, Apple has given a series order for “Calls”, an English-language adaptation of the French short-form series from Canal+. The English adaption of Timothée Hochet’s original series will let viewers experience short stories through real-life audio sources and minimal visuals, and will be co-produced with Canal+.

The source notes that Apple has also acquired the rights to the first season of the French original as part of the “Calls” deal. The company’s latest straight to series order comes as it continues to grow its series programming pipeline for a yet-to-be-revealed original content platform, and also marks Apple’s first international co-production.

Earlier this week, Apple set a deal for multiple new series from children’s programmer Sesame Workshop, while also ordering “Little America,” an anthology series from Lee Eisenberg and “The Big Sick” writers Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon.

A multi-year content deal with Oprah Winfrey was also signed by Apple last week.
