Telus announced late last week it is investing $110 million to bring its fibre optic network to Richmond, B.C, and the village of Steveston located south of the city.
The company says construction is already underway and completion is expected by spring of 2019, to connect over 90 percent of homes and businesses in Richmond.
“Broadband Internet is essential in our emerging digital economy,” said Tony Geheran, TELUS Executive Vice-President and President of Broadband Networks, in a press release. “Whether you’re looking for the fastest symmetrical upload and download speeds or the most reliable network technology, a direct connection to the TELUS PureFibre network delivers it all, making it the best network available in Richmond.”
The Telus PureFibre gigabit-enabled network offers faster symmetrical Internet speeds of at least 150 megabits per second, with capacity for increased speeds at the enterprise and education levels.
Telus reiterated this investment is part of their “commitment to invest $4.7 billion throughout British Columbia between 2017 and 2020, at no cost to taxpayers.”
