Text FIRES to 45678 to Donate $10 to Red Cross for #BCWildfires: Province to Match Donations [u]

Everyone on the west coast is being affected by ongoing wildfires in British Columbia. If you want to help out, donations to the Red Cross can be sent via text message from your cellphone.

All you have to do is text FIRES to 45678, and a $10 donation will be made, billed to you via your wireless carrier.

According to the Red Cross, from August 15 to October 12, 2018, the BC Government will match all donations made by a number with a BC area code, up to $20 million.

Here’s what the Canadian Red Cross says on how the money will be put to use:

Communities in British Columbia are experiencing the effects of hundreds of active fires across the province and evacuation orders have been issued. Many people are in need of urgent assistance.

Donations to the Canadian Red Cross will be used for immediate and ongoing relief efforts, long term recovery, resiliency and preparedness for future events in British Columbia and Yukon, including consequential events related to the fires.

Correction: removed previous tweets referring to Telus and Rogers matching donations, as those were from 2017.
