Square Launches Magstripe Reader with Apple Lightning Connector
The Square Reader has long allowed merchants to accept credit card payments, as the dongle attached to smartphones like the iPhone through its 3.5mm headphone jack.
But today, Square has announced a new version of their magstripe reader—with an Apple Lightning Connector. This means merchants with their iPhone 7 or newer—which lack a 3.5mm headphone jack—can now use the Square Magstripe Reader without an adapter.

The Square Reader with Apple Lightning connector is priced at $10 CAD each, the same as the headset jack version. Square charges merchants 2.65% per swipe for every Visa, Mastercard, Discover or American Express payment.
According to Square Canada, the Lightning connector version of Square Reader works with iOS 10.0.2 or later.
In other news, Square has also announced their original Square Reader for Magstripe can now be used with the company’s Virtual Terminal, allowing merchants who do business on their Apple or Chromebook computer to now accept Square payments.
